Translation work... officially landed!  And the professor is now signing his emails with the first name only.  I am very proud of myself, and pleased, and just generally happy.

...Are you seducing your professor?

Sorry, had to ask.

Nope.  He's married with children =)

I'm just glad that he doesn't feel he has to be formal.

Naw, many professors do that when you're on good terms with them. I had 2 or 3 doing that by the time I graduated. In my experience it just signifies a shift in perception from "student" to "person who happens to be a student".

Well, unless Vector is actually doing that but I am doubting it.

I've been ninja'd with confirmation of my suspicion!

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Yup, I have two who do that, and a professor who signs his letters "yours."

And may there be many more =)

I had a weird and cool night with my father, one of the most so out of a lifetime defined by weird and cool nights.  It was actually kind of a bummer in one sense, and we kept thinking we were going to throw up on each other, and it reminded me of all the girls in highschool I had a shot at dating but never did, and I won't really be satisfied until I call to make sure he got home safely.

But it was a really cool night, and we "bonded" if that's not too lame a phrase, over some stuff we should have spoken of years ago.

Also, I'm going to build an airship.  I shall call it the Fearsome Fish, and market myself as Kount von Fluggenwerfer, for football games, parades, and bar mitzvahs.

I don't know why, but I'm constantly amazed Weird Al still exists as a thing.

I must have been amazed at this fact nearly 3 times in the past year, and innumerable times in the past decade. He seems like such a symbol of the 90s that I can't seem to make my brain realize he's still out there, making parodies and whatnot.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Revisions! Things are kind of vaguely coherent now. Tomorrow I need to revise the analogue for class features to streamline leveling and make classes simpler, offloading most complicated-but-interesting mechanics into the parallel system we already have set up to handle that. Ha ha ha, in a couple of weeks I might actually have the system pieced together, leaving only content generation to be done!

Went to my first NHL game today, Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers.  The 'Nucks are my home team and the Oilers are the team of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who I went to school with.  Pretty cool.  The only thing more I could've asked for of my first hockey game would be seats that weren't literally at the back of the arena; I was actually sitting against the back wall.  At least the angle was pretty good.
Oh, and Vancouver won.

:)

Because occasionally he still produces something absolutely hilarious, and better than anything he's made before.  White & Nerdy is my favorite.  Most of his stuff I consider to be pretty cheap, though.
