It mostly depends on the food. Canned stuff won't really go bad so much as turn into a horrid grey pulpy mush if left unopened for way too long; salty stuff will be pretty resistant to rot. The trick is figuring out how they came up with the 'use by/sell by' date; is it "this food will probably turn green 3 days later" or "at this date, we can start barely detecting a difference in flavor from a completely fresh version."
Canned food long out of date is still pretty much edible, though won't be as tasty. Lunch meat like the month out of date ham I ate without checking the expiration date, on the other hand, will not be... though it may still make you no longer hungry. :P

Protip, make sure to look at your food before eating it if it's passed the expiration date. Once noticed some apple cider had mold floating in the jug AFTER I swallowed. That was not a fun experience.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Eh, a little bit of mould won't do you any harm.
And if you're starving, you take what you can get.

That's true, still gave me kind of a shock. Also I am a spoiled sonofabitch as far as my food supply in life has gone, and holy crap, "sonofabitch" is a word according to Firefox. That right there just made my day.

...I wouldn't eat anything that has mold on it.  It's better to endure your lack-of-food-but-have-internet-access than to just vomit everywhere from mold poisoning.

Urgh, you tell me. We have a book full of those short stories. Children getting their thumbs cut off, boys getting baked and fed to the ducks, girls set on fire...

All the popular fairy tales were taken from the Brothers Grimm... Who were German.
These stories were then consequently watered down and had a lot of the nasty parts glossed over/removed.
...yeknow, just for those who didn't know.

Park51 finally opens; nobody even mentions it apperently. Shows just how impotent conservative rage over this whole thing really was.

Huh... Seems things may-or-may-not be able to go faster than the speed of light. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5in1T5nvGNckqh0WyG9Y3B_YI4VQg?docId=94691396d0b44f3aa8105740b51e9e9f
It's still awaiting confirmation from repeats of the experiments though, which is why I say it may or may not actually have been measured going faster than light. Assuming their results actually are correct (dubious though at this point), the measured it going about 0.00396%, plus or minus about .00066% faster than the speed of light.

a. I am completely out of bread, because it seems to have decided to insta-rot
b. I am about to start a pot of rice
c. I am on a day off because I just can't deal anymore
d. My stomach is making "fuck off" noises
e. I have lost weight to the point where my roommates noticed, just looking at how my face has changed

-> Time to go buy a nice loaf of white bread and a container of milk, so I can have rice pudding and toast tonight, and a big wokful of fried rice tomorrow morning.

I was just coming to post about this one, too. Well, here's the BBC article on it anyway. I hope this is real, so much. Faster-than-light travel is a total game changer, even if it's only in particles.

Part of me says holy shit this is real and the best thing ever!
Part of me says this has a snowball's chance in hell of being confirmed.

All of me wishes I had the ability to test it myself.
