Don't bother watching the video (unless you really want to). Best punny song I've heard recently.

There's beauty in seeing simple laws of physics at work, even if it's only a simulation. One has to wonder though - they don't seem to have much use for their supercomputers if they could afford to let them run this simulation for eight months.

Playing Vanilla Hearts of Iron 2, as Soviet Russia.

The year is 1941. The world stands divided. There are those that support Russia and its conquering adventures, through India and the Middle East, and there are those who are at war with them. There is no other way.

Europe is barely able to resist the Russian's unstoppable advance, with Germany commencing Operation Barbarossa, expecting a quick victory. Russian leaders fear the might of Germany's army enough to move much of their industrial facilities into Siberia. They wait for the urgent reports from the front...and wait...

Eventually, the 21st of August, a report arrives. Berlin is besieged, and Scandinavia is soon to be completely Russian.

I'm loving this game. SO MUCH.

Just got confirmation of both the library job, and switching over to permanent employment at UPS. I am an exceedingly happy upside-down cat, I am. I'm really looking forward to next week!

The Johnny Cage one at 1:15 was by far my favorite:
  • Step 1) Uppercut self into spiked ceiling.
  • Step 2) Apply sunglasses while impaled.
  • Step 3) Fall down, striking badass pose upon landing. Liu Kang stands in stunned silence.
Uppercutting your own head off 3 times is pretty impressive, too. That's got to take some practice,

I have had 2 days in a row with 8+ hours of sleep, I almost feel ok.

And my project contract has finally been renewed at the absolute last moment, we won the recompete. 5 more years of working on the governments dime.

The following is a quote from my bosses email: "Congratulations all - we are working tomorrow."

I am back down to hopefully survivable levels of stress. Now all I have to worry about is paying off my college debts and the car i bought my ex, not having any local friends, having no relationship prospects, and my sister moving to the New Orleans ghetto (on the plus side, she did that for a job), and my frequent migraines and extremely high blood pressure, and my country failing.

Hey, congrats on the contract. We're on a bridge extension right now, as BATF pushed back the bid phase by another 18 months or so. Although interestingly enough, Lockheed Martin headhunters have already been sniffing around trying to get some of our people and asking if we want to work on "their" new ATF contract. Which hasn't even been submitted for bids yet. And we do all their IT, so it's not like they're talking about another contract--BATF is a relatively small agency, they don't exactly have black ops contracts. Admittedly, I'd jump to Lockheed in a heartbeat if they do win the contract. I'm sick of HP's head-up-our-asses style of management.

Lockheed Martin is probably angling for your contract and is trying to make sure they can get people with some experience IF they win. I know that most of the developers here would have been able to get jobs with the other company if we lost the contract, simply because putting a brand new team on an ongoing project at this stage and size would be insane.

Oh, I know how the game's played. I just think it's ballsy (and a violation of most of our non-compete clauses) to try and recruit people before the companies are even working on the bids.
