Huh, so apparently I watched 5 episodes of Dexter today without even realizing I'd watched that many. Ahh, binging.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Near the end of Season 3. Just the finale left to go, I believe.

Yeah season 3 is probably the weakest in my opinion.  Season 4 and 5 make up for it though, definitely.

Sometimes, I just feel like coding and listening to podcasts/music w/o really caring about what it is I'm coding and w/o the planning or lengthy debugging typically involved in coding. So I've come up with an idea... Just make a program and add things. Doesn't matter what, doesn't matter if the functions play nice together, no debugging so long as it runs, no planning, no good practice. If something doesn't fit, jam it in until it does. It shall be the most gloriously terrifying collage of data ever seen on a computer. This shall be hilarious.

Finished reading The Fourth Hand, as anticipated this morning, and writing the first German essay of the semester.

Whoo.  Unfortunately, the German self-reflection is mostly about how the only challenge I expect the course to pose to me is in terms of attendance (the policy is... very strict).  But that's all right, too.

Am I the only one on this board who doesn't know what the hell they're supposed to do with all the brackets, parenthesis and curly braces?

In terms of programming, or in terms of other things?

Well, in terms of programming, it varies by language, but the most common conventions are probably...
() - parameters for functions and constructors, if-clause and loop conditions, order of computation if needed
{} - code blocks
[] - array indices

EDIT: And at least in C++, Java and C#, <> indicate the type of certain data structures. For example, a List<string> is a List of strings.

Both.

Oh.  Well, I'm very (it might be better to say "excruciatingly") familiar with their usages in pure mathematics, and their basic usages in essay-writing.

Programming, though... no.  My experience extends to a little Scheme and a reasonable skill in theoretical matters, but nothing else.
