I just heard they're about to release Doom 3's source code.

Buh... really? Oh man, expect iodoom3 or whatever within the next couple of years.

ID sure is lenient on releasing source code :P

In Doom news, ever since I finished up all my schoolwork, I've been attempting to play through Dark 7 and Void. Currently sort of stuck on Dark 7 since I'm in the second map, just opened up the base and am completely drained on all ammo... Void is really hard for its jumping puzzles and such I've been attempting to get past.

You know what I think you guys need?

A rainbow cheesecake recipe.

I love cheesecake, this recipe seems really good too. I've always enjoyed cooking and baking, but I'm just bad at it. I'll try making this tomorrow and report back on my success/failure.

Uh, yeah... I woke up to a drizzle with some thunder. In about 10 minutes it progressed into a full-blown thunderstorm, complete with rain so heavy it is flooding a pond I live next to, and lighting every 2 minutes. Sorry Vector, not going to happen, at least not today.

Had a melon-flavored ice cream bar.

DE-FUCKING-LICIOUS.

Melon soda is very good too, shame you can't find it anywhere in the U.S.

EDIT: I really hate how severe the storm is, but it's dying down now but we need the rain.

ID sure is lenient on releasing source code :P

It's not really leniency. A fair amount of ids early employees were the type that loved to toy around with hex editing and file editing with their games. Releasing the source for their own games is giving the community the chance to toy around with the game in a deep and possibly educational way.

In a business sense for more clever people it works as a demo for a given engine to hopefully create interest in more modern versions of idtech.

A New Cosmos series and Rainbow Cheesecake are both the best things to start off my internet day.

I'm in an uncommonly good mood for the last free Friday I have before I start regular employment again. No doubt 11-hour days are going to be hard, but I've been looking forward to this sort of work for a long time. Feels good!

Also, after sharing Princess Mononoke with folks last night, I got all inspired again... I remember how many pieces of art and writing it inspired when I was young. There's something about the story; the solid sense of a living world, the monsters and peoples, the gray-and-gray morality spectrum, and the heroic journey that wasn't about killing something big and evil, but rather dealing with the realities of war and industrialization. Neither nature nor industry were shown to be purely good or bad either; just opposed factions in a conflict that didn't need to happen.

Go to Google maps.  http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

Enter "China" as your starting point, "Taiwan" as your endpoint. Get directions.

Hmm, I seem to be at ease with women I'm not interested in (as a friend or romantically).
Now I just need to work on the other part.

Yep, John Carmack stated that the code'll go public near the end of the year as heäll have to do the legal stuff first.

However, I was just reminded of a pattern which isn't very fortunate. As everyone probably knows, Doom's engine is open source (Doom 2 used the same engine). They've been working on FreeDoom, a free set of graphics, musics, maps etc for very long - and the project, by what I've seen, appears to have stalled almost completely. A shame, and hopefully Doom 3 kicks off better when it's released.
