Hmm... I might make a Harry Potter thread just to talk about everything briefly (possibly in a complainy sort of way), because I'm rereading my way through the series.

I'm attempting to pickle eggs. I foresee hilarious failure, but who knows. Maybe this will be delicious, besides allowing me to buy delicious protein sources in bulk and simply stretch them out over long periods of time.

Also, Jopax, I want you to know that I have never approved of 300 so hard.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Streaming "The Adventures of Mark Twain" Claymation film in a bit. Since I'm still semi-distracted, I'll probably be doing a rerun on Sunday as well. Looking forward to it!

I'm not going to link it, because I don't want this to be a political thing and the threadruler wouldn't either.  But today, something cool happened.

John McCain, United States Senator and seventy four year old Vietnam veteran, gave a speech in Congress, and dropped a Lord of the Rings reference.

I need to know the exact quote reference. If it some easily remembered thing from the movies, possibly refering to the middle-east as Mordor then its cool and also kinda lame. If its lore you can only get from the book then nerdgasms all over the place. If its a meme like "We cannot simply WALK into Mordor, which is the middle-east" then I really dont know what to think.

Like I said, I didn't want to link it, because this is the Happy thread and politics is never Happy.  Just Google "John McCain Mordor" and you'll get it.  It's hardly a specific reference by any means, he was just kinda making fun of some people.

Of course McCain would drop a Tolkien reference, they are contemporaries after all.

The irony is that I'm an American. I'm supposed to be a racist prick.

Maybe it's because Sister Denmark is hot. I dunno.
