Basically, I don't like the angsty "here I am to be handsome and wangst about immortality" kind.  I like the kind that is clearly fundamentally non-human, utterly self-serving, and cooperating--should it choose to--solely for its own enjoyment, or perhaps to fulfill a necessary debt.  None of this silly empathy stuff.  Actual predators, not "behold the skin of a predator waaaaaaaaaangst."

So, as far as what I've liked, I enjoyed Stoker's novel and Hellsing.  If Vampire$ falls in the same vein, I'll take a look.

Try reading the Dresden files. They got all of them.... sorta. There's the zombie-like vampires, which are nearly extinct since stoker published the manual on how to deal with them, then there are the ones that turn into these flappy demon imp thingies, and then there's the ones that are way good looking, and feed off of sex, and none of them like each other.

Then there's also the half vampires.

basically, when Jim Butcer writes about fantasy creatures, he does them all. he did that with werewolves too. had about 6 different types in one book.

The series is about a badass private eye in chicago that's a wizard.

Yes, it's a book about a wizard named harry, no, it's not that one. this one is significantly more badass.

Also, he has himself listed in the yellow pages under wizard. he's the only one there.

On the topic of vampire novels I was leant Fevre Dream by George R. R. Martin of A Game of Thrones fame. There are the more human vampires but I found it to be surprisingly decent, especially how they portray the more predacious vampires.

Something at work last night at least made me laugh. We get 45 minutes in our 10 hour shift and the bosses had let us distribute it how we liked. Only a few of us chose to, myself included. Recently they got unhappy with this arrangement and so we now all have fixed breaks together. It's meant our lunch had to be pushed an hour later for legal reasons. What's made me laugh is that twice in the four days I've worked since this change was put in place they've asked us to temporarily go back to how it was before for their convenience and both times we've declined. The change is causing them more trouble than for us. Maybe I shouldn't be so pleased but I get little other joy out of the place.

Bbirthday presents: A Dance with Dragons ( I kept calling it Dances with Dragons. Hmm... SoFaI/Dances with Wolves crossover, anyone?). Also, a new tennis racquet, and one year left of being a minor.

University health insurance successfully waived.

Hoohoohoo :>  Can't get me, corporate douchebags!

With this, I'm done with all of my chores 'n stuff for today.  Well, other than making dinner and studying German.  But it feels good to have something of a clean slate.

Try David Wellington for some vampires who can be brutal and have character depth.  Some of his stuff is free to read online, and I really enjoy his work, which feels somewhere between Roger Zelazny and George Romero.  He also writes some pretty badass female characters without fetishizing, at least not that I can tell when thinking back on it.
