Our sweet and awesome neighbors are firing off obviously illegal and huge fireworks and mortars.

EDIT: one of them is the neighbor who is a police officer in the next town over. He obviously doesn't give a shit.

America: We really just need an excuse to legally blow shit up.

No fireworks here due to not wanting to light the not-been-rained-on-in-forever yard on fire.... so I blew shit up in Minecraft instead. I made a TNT-powered TNT cannon that was good for 1 shot. It was beautiful.

Got some friends who have been estranged by recent events together. We went down to the lakeside, sat next to the docks, and watched some 8 private fireworks displays happening all down the length of the lake. It was a clear night, so we briefly played around with a fun iphone app that allows you to see the constellations you're pointing at, and discussed some astronomy, astrology, and archaic navigation technology. Then we went back to my place, had some dinner, and watched Spielberg's "Independence Day".

Plenty of cause for happy.

You're just learning about the Cheerwine Doughnuts? Krispy Kreme apparently gave my mother some as a sample a couple of months ago. They freak me out, because I can almost taste something in them that reminds me of carbonation.
