That's exactly what I meant by the situation being "touchy". What a shame indeed.

It's been close to a week of rain and thunderstorms. I know it's causing hell all over, but I do love ever-present stormy weather. It's been raining so consistently and been so humid if I closed my eyes, I could easily think I'm in the South.

Hmmm is Battery park the bit after you take the speedboat from Liberty, eg "level 2"? On that one I recall you have to explode the vending machine on the pier and sneak in through there. Just going near the proper entrance get's you tagged as bloodthirsty. Basically ignore Anna's orders and do your own mission.
You can open that one up without violence, there's a keypad besides it that you can mess with with a tool. Or you could use the code, but unfortunately, you'll find that code after you've entered the sewers, so that's something for a search-and-reload case.

...Am I the only one who ever bothered with non-relevant NPCs?  If you talk to the kid wandering five feet away, he'll tell you the code for a piece of food.  (Of course, you do have to know that and have some food, but c'mon, most of the NPC interaction is front-loaded in the game anyway.)

I just wanted to say one of the harder "Easter Eggs" to get in Deus Ex is getting a hotel proprietor to kill a gangster himself. You can kill or disable him yourself very easily, but the plot changes (just a little, but in a happy way) if the hotel owner does it himself (give him a pistol, help him out, be careful to only soften up the gangster, save beforehand because it's really touchy).

You can give him any of a pistol, stealth pistol, sawed-off shotgun, or crossbow, in that order of notice if you have more than one.  I never use the stealth pistol, but I modded it so it's mine, so I just drop it and find him a shotgun.  Gives him a better chance of winning the shootout, although I never let it progress that far since Sandra usually gets shot to Hell in the process.

Come to think of it, I've never continued a game where she died for some reason.  Is that sailor still in the bar later if she's not alive?  That'd be a pretty cool trigger, if true.

Now that you mention it I do recall the kid on the pier and the keypad, I did say I played that game 7 years ago :), at the time I knew a million little extras, talked to every NPC etc. Missing out on any little bit of dialogue or freebie, would give me a heart attack.

Thanks for the shotgun tip, I can't say I've been over the later game quite as much as near the start, I do recall the pistol/stealth pistol choice vaguely, guess I rarely had a spare unmodded shotgun kicking around at that point in the game to give the guy. Will rectify that when I play it again :)

I'd play for maybe 18 hours a day, or longer, I was totally obsessed and played that day and night. Then I got a girlfriend, which put a serious crimp on my playtime.

I just remember exploding the vending machine better because I liked picking up a dynamite crate just before leaving liberty, as an "extra" just for the hell of it, and you gotta explode something with it if you're playing non-lethal.

I developed a little method for the first ATM last time I was playing. I avoid it at first, save up skill points, and detour back after receiving the "job done" points from the boss in the base, with just enough points to up my hacker skill to "advanced", and only then hack the machine. Tons of cash for the rest of the game.

I also tended to cart unconscious hookers around between cities and silly stuff like that.
