So we were playing a roleplaying game earlier this evening, and one of our characters is basically the look-stuff-up-online encyclopedia character. Turns out he doesn't have any points in research or related skills.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

No, because since I posted that I've already been disproved.

I lose everything forever.

Not really. They found that by essentially retroactively making him immune to it, HIV was purged. If they can find a way to do that on a massive scale, then I'll be willing to call it a cure.

Yes, this method has been around for a while. It uses gene therapy and a certain gene I commented on before.
The mutant gene CCR5-Δ32 is present in 15-20% of the European population, and conveys natural immunity to Smallpox, the Bubonic Plauge, and most STDs (including HIV).

Yep, it has been around for a while, but as the article states, it isn't exactly an easy process. So while some if not most in the first world countries may be cured, this method would likely leave the problem in third world countries essentially untreated. It also remains to be seen how effective it actually is; one person is a start, but isn't really statistically significant.

Cfoofoo just put an image of a turtle walking upright with a belt of nades and a clip of ammo wrapped around him and is holding a chainsaw into my head.

They don't need grenades, their head can crane all the way to their back feet and they can take off a finger.
