I put this in the happy thread, because I find it amazingly entertaining, and there's basically no practical consequence to what it is.  From a Congressional hearing on climate change-

Is there some thought being given to subsidizing the clearing of rainforests in order for some countries to eliminate that production of greenhouse gases?

I read that and just laughed my ass off.

 She was probably thinking the whole foresting industry with all the machines and factories it uses, but even then it wouldn't make any damn sense. Subsidizing American loggers might actually work out, as we can and do replant forests whereas rainforests can't be replanted. Cheap American logs would make logging elsewhere less enticing. Or have them cut down more to sell enough to make a profit.

It makes slightly more sense if you read into it, that 80+% of greenhouse gasses are produced by natural sources, but are absorbed by the same sources at about the same rate.  Some scientists were gobsmacked.

By the way Dana Rohrabacher is a man.  I know, it throws me every time I hear about a person named Dana, but it's more common than you'd think.
