Racially specific dating makes no sense, especially if they are "into the animes and everything".

Although I'm darkly amused by my female asian friends who exasperatedly tell guys who are into anime and have yellow fever to fuck off. There are some things better left unspoken.

This one I've never understood, especially since I've had friends like that.  Anime people and real Asian people typically look almost nothing alike (even without the Superdeformed styling, Anime people almost always look Caucasian anyway).  Is it just a fanatical obsession to have anything to do with Oriental stuff, or am I the one that's confused here?

Well, the fetishsizing of asians, particularly hyper-sexualisation of asian women, has grown so bad it's leaked into mainstream culture and pervades all over the internet. It's downright bizarre, speaking as an American-born/European-raised/Asian.

I expect at least part of it is the assumption that Asian people will be into anime as well. Kind of like, "They're Asian, so they're good at math and know kung fu".

Stereotypes, yay [/sarcasm]

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I am certain the oh-so-sensitive "go be fat/unattractive someplace else" is certainly not gender specific. Speaking as a guy who alternates not-giving-a-shit about appearances/looks like a hippie bum and alternately dressing up/looking nice, it's amazing how much bullshit you can get away with in the world just by appearing attractive. Heck, movie and pop-stars.

Denigrating slurs such as whore or slut are a whole other can of worms, as among males our counterpart "man-whore" is generally regarded as a herp-derp positive alpha male trait, highfives and brofists all around, naturally. And then some of our insults for each other are 'feminizing' terms like bitch.

As for the race thing, it is not a problem if you don't ooze "I'm fascinated by X-race and I have yellow/jungle/whatever fever" at every pore. Although I'm darkly amused by my female asian friends who exasperatedly tell guys who are into anime and have yellow fever to fuck off. There are some things better left unspoken.

Yeah, I wouldn't know about the first thing because... well, basically, I have so little ability to perform female beauty that I've just given up and dress as I like.  On the other hand, I can usually get people to treat me like a person, which is nice.

However, from everything I've heard, the onus is much stronger on chicks to be thin--because they're already meat, as opposed to dudes, who are in the not-meat category and thus can get slammed with virility penalities, rather than the almost-automatic "why don't you look fuckable?" penalty laid upon womenfolk.  So... maybe worse, maybe not.  All I know is that fat women tend to earn a lot less money than fat men, and that's it.  The social penalties may indeed be worse on the other side of the fence.

The anime thing sounds like one of the world's worst combos of being female and a person of color, because, seriously... just ew.  I feel so grateful for not having to go through that.  I've only had to deal with one drooly guy, and that was bad enough.

Racially specific dating makes no sense, especially if they are "into the animes and everything".

I wanna date someone from Eastern or Central Europe someday, because that seems like an interesting culture.

You could also say that it's because I'm way into the math culture and everything, and that's the entire reason why, and I just wanna drool over teh mathmeats.

On the other hand, 2/2 guys I attempted to date are Eastern European (Ukrainian and a descendant of Russian Jews), and I met 'em before I ever was interested in mathematics.  So maybe it's just personal taste.

Is it just a fanatical obsession to have anything to do with Oriental stuff, or am I the one that's confused here?

I believe the assumption is that the women will be just as flat-chested, thin, and servile.  Anime does not have a very good view of women, especially in terms of its strong habit of gender-role-entrapment, etc.  There are lots of dudes online who bemoan the feminist movement and its creation of women who are harder to catch for sammich-creating purposes.

As such (so far as I know), the assumption is that an Asian woman will fulfill their dreams of a woman who always looks fuckable, has no "mannish" feelings that can't be readily deflated, and will do whatever they tell them to, often enduring abuse because in anime abuse = love.

It is absolutely disgusting.

The law and common sense say no in my case.

At the moment, culture seems to be in favor of the idea that you should start dating someone you think is hot and then decide whether you love them later. This seems a major factor, though I'll be honest, dating -> love seems the reverse of the order of operations I'd endorse. Nevertheless, I don't know much about this whole thing.

Or perhaps

any kind of interest -> getting to know each other ("dating") -> feelings of stronger affection and attachment (more dating; probably "going steady") -> love, marriage, whatever, etc.

If you have friendship already, then you can have love -> dating, but often one can meet a stranger who seems intriguing, but whom one doesn't know that well--so you get to know 'em in a romantic context and see what happens.

I think this is qualifying as a not very happy derail guys. What I'm surprised at though is the people involved (Mostly) should all know better than to drag this out in this topic.

You would be surprised. I was involved in a research survey project a few years back, and I was gobsmacked by the answers returned on one question we had: "Would you rather have sex with or say "I love you" to your romantic partner first?" in which a much higher percentage went with sex. Of course, I'm a romantic, so what do I know about ordinary people.

EDIT: Okay happy thoughts, I'm recently become involved with a twenty-three year old single mother who is a political organiser. I'm terrible at this dealing with children thing, but it's a joy.

Should the spin-off thread be here, or Life Advice? I am unsure where to post one, although I'm sure Life Advice has like 5 appropriate threads or something. That's an open question, btw, I'm just quoting Janet for reference.

Depends. Do you want it to end up useless? Than stick it in life advice.

I swear that board has the most ironic name.

Yergh.  I apologize.  I really thought this was going to end a lot faster than it did.

The thread should be in GD, because it's not about a specific situation and, you know, it's not useless.

Life advice isn't completely useless, it's just mostly filled with trolling and people who spend most of their lives online, and thus ill-suited to give advice. How can someone with no life give life advice?  :P

NOTE: I give advice in LA and am making fun of myself.
