Model UN was today.
I was Sweden.
It was awesome.
Ohreally? I hope you represented my beloved Mother Svea in a decent fashion? What do you do at these model UN things anyway?
Well, your delegation is divided into a bunch of rooms.
In these rooms you just kinda discuss and vote on UN resolutions written by the students there.
After passing them, they go to the General Assembly, where you are with your entire delegation and vote on the resolutions that made it there.
Anyway, back to the small rooms, because those are the interesting bits.
Norway's delegate in my room is a friend of mine, so I sat by him.
I was trying to pass both our resolution about cracking down on international corporate tax evasion and theirs on research into inhabiting the moon, but I never got called on to present a main motion.
I did, however shoot down a few crappy resolutions and help pass some good ones that came up.
Also, Iceland's delegate in my room was amazing.
He wasn't the best speaker, but the points he brought up singlehandedly shot down a few resolutions.
There was one really fucking stupid one about cancer research proposed by Turkey, though.
Conversation went a bit like this (C is Chile, whose delegate is a close friend of Turkey's)
T has the floor.
I: So, why are you choosing to build this facility in Turkey?
T: Turkey is the most stable Middle Eastern country.
Uninteresting stuff happens, then I has the floor.
I: Now, while I agree that we need a cancer research facility, I believe it should be built in a more stable area, such as Europe.
T: Isn't Turkey a part of Europe.
I: No, it really isn't, and you said it's part of the Middle East.
C:
If I had a map right now, I'd smack you with it. If Turkey isn't part of Europe, then where is it?
I: Turkey is part of the Middle East, an area between Europe, Africa, and the rest of Asia.
C: So where is it then?
I: It's a part of Asia.
Resolution passes with me, Iceland, Norway, and Israel voting nay.
