"I like large airplanes."
"I like handjobs."
This is the best thing ever.

And the explanation of why this is so is another good snapshot of Mandarin. It involves a homophonic pun, a figure of speech, *and* a complex mutation of meaning from changing one tone. Like I said, puns and dirty jokes in Mandarin can be a thing of beauty.

鸡 (ji, high tone) means "chicken, rooster, fowl". As in English, this is also a slang term for a penis.
机 (ji, high tone) means "machine". This is pronounced *exactly* the same as the word for chicken.

大 (da, falling tone) means "large, big, great".
打 (da, falling-rising tone) means "to hit, strike; play with"

飞 (fei) means "to fly, flying".

So, a "feiji" (lit. "flying machine") is an airplane. But the first "da feiji" means "big airplane", while the second one means "play with flying c*ck", which is the rough translation for a handjob (or at least one of the figures of speech which refers to one). I suppose literally it also means "hit the airplane".

Dutch is the same way to Danish;
there are no official genders to nouns, but there ARE 3 types of ...adverb? that happen to coincide with the german way of genderization or the french way depending on what language it cane from originally probably.
Then there are all the new loan words from techspeak, turkish, which follow their own pronunciation rules let alone spelling.

There is no linkage to actual sex anyhow...
de vrouw, de man, het kind, het meisje, de hond, het hondje, de puppy, het glazuur.
the woman, the man, the child, the girl, the dog, the little dog,  the puppy, the glazing.

In the end it makes little difference to the rest of the sentence, yet when an immigrant (or a person who uses street language) uses the wrong word, it really makes me cringe and really puts them down as a non-native speaker. (Possibly feels similar to someone using 'it' to describe a girl.)
n.b.
The girl is going outside, it is wearing a knitted hat.

That [Magma] is a bit deep down there, don't you think?
You really aren't thinking like a dwarf.

If you think it is down too far, you move it up until it reaches an acceptable elevation.

Scandanavia and the World. It's a webcomic.

Yay, new webcomic for me to follow! And so far, me likey very much. Especially the one about different foods. My wife exposed me to salmiakki early on in our relationship, and yet I still married her...

Fresh coffee from a French press.
Amazing.
Also, took apart my knife and oiled it.
Ye gods, Torx screws are sexy.
They look nice and are orgasmic to handle.

I don't think a manual coffee press, an electronics screwdriver, and a folder are powertools.
