In honor of my probably passing my exams and feeling a bit crazy, I have come back to present to you the Best Song From The Best Musical Ever Based On The Best Novel Ever, as presented in a certain number of languages:
"Belle" from
Notre-Dame de Paris, based on the novel of the same name. Originally released in France, back in 1998. I happen to own the DVD of this show, as well as two annotated copies of the novel (which was written in 1850 or something by one Victor Hugo).
The Original French, with Frollo's deliciously enormous eyebrows and cubic hair.
The Moscow 12-Year-Reunion Version.
The Russian Music Video Version, aka the one with the hot Esmeralda.
Korean Version.
Spanish Version.
Spanish Version, hijacking Russian video to give reasonable quality.
The Famous Italian Version, complete with strange gropey priest gestures.
The Infamous Official English Version, which doesn't rhyme well. At all. And is weirdly lulzy, because it's half original cast and half people who don't know how to sing.
The Not-so-infamous English Version From China, which no one knows about.
The English Production From Vegas, which is possibly one of the worst ideas ever.
The Weird Polish Version.
The WTF Poland Version.
Sadly, I could not find anything in German. It would have been entirely too lulzy to pass up.
If I can find the links, I'll send by the stuff from
Le Petit Prince and
Romeo et Juliette at some point. Not in different languages... just a few clips I managed to find online.
T_T
It's so hard to be a lover of French musicals, sometimes, because they don't make it onto the net that often.
Anyway, anyone who's interested should be able to easily find the entire thing in French with subtitles (from user QueenisGod), and there's a few run-throughs in Russian and Italian out there. The rest are much, much more difficult to find, and in some cases only one video is up (or it's entirely unwatchable). I... also have a lot more of these, but they generally aren't as distinct or interesting.
If you're wondering why I suddenly appeared with this, I was wondering if Daniel Lavoie was dead and found out that no, he was reprising Frollo in Moscow for this concert. Then I watched the whole thing, and then I started trying to figure out if some of the rarer languages had been put up yet. And next weekend... next weekend I want to watch my DVD again, because it's been more than 3 years now since I last saw it...
. . .
*BAMPH!*
