Welp, had a tree (city owned tree note) drop all of its branches in the space of two hours or so. Before I get into the details of today a bit of history. The city has been doing a poor job of maintaining the trees along our street and two trees in particular, ours and our neighbors, have been of particular issue for many many years.
For today it started at around 4:30am (I was still asleep) with two large branches coming down and by about 5am the tree cutting people had come out and were dealing with said branches and suffice to say ruining my sleep. They were done about 5:30am and not 10 minutes after they left. BOOM the last, highest, and biggest of the branches came down. Taking out our power, and phone lines along with the cable lines that went across the street, and landing on my mothers car. Now when that BOOM happened I just kinda shrugged and tried to go back to sleep thinking it wasn't much (didn't sound nearly as bad as one particularly massive branch that came down a few months earlier at a neighbors house), as I didn't realize where exactly the branches came down and figured I would have been alerted by my mother yelling, my dogs barking, or somesuch. It wasn't until the fire truck came (live power lines and such) and stopped outside the house that I realized that the branches had evidently come down outside our house. After the power company came and dealt with the live lines the tree cutting people came back (there were evidently alot of fallen branches about the city as the wind was blowing quite hard), clearing the mess from the first tree and thankfully after checking out the one in front of our house (one of the forks were developing a crack possibly from the fallen tree's branches striking it) trimmed ours back significantly and lessening its danger. They agreed that it needed to be cut down but unfortunately there is apparently a large backlog of such trees but that ours has been moved up the list. All in all very professional and helpful this time around and were satisfied that this issue is finally being taken care of.
The irony of this situation is that we're in the process of selling the house so we won't even see the benefit of those damn trees being dealt with for long. Anyway both power and phone lines were restored to us in under half a day or so, faster than I expected, so for that much I'm very much happy.
