Dropped some knowledge on a guy on TwoCansandString. I wont' mention the issue so we don't derail the thread into discussing it, but it was a very controversial issue and his beliefs on the subject weren't very well thought out and basically gave the gubmint free reign to decide who is and isn't human. When I showed him how, he backed off. Now his argument is more reasonable but it could still use some work. It looks like he may have disappeared in a puff of smoke though :/
Also, I think I figured out what my first real roguelike will be.
Dracula Must Die (Or Die Dracula Die, can't pick one):
Who? Dracula
What? Kill him
Where? His castle
When? While night is thematic I suppose it would be better to attack during the day. Hmmm...
Why? He's Dracula. If you need more motivation than that you're in the wrong career.
How? Go to his estate. Set up a safe area where you can rest, and then start exploring his castle grounds. Dracula's five greatest minions carry keys that will unlock the door to his inner sanctum. Find them, kill them, take the keys, break in, kill Dracula.
More seriously, I can't see myself doing a traditional roguelike. I don't yet have the skill or know-how to do something that would set me apart from the other traditional roguelikes. It would just be another page on Roguebasin for some half-finished roguelike no one ever plays. I want to do something else. I don't think anyone's ever done a Dracula roguelike. There's a castlevania roguelike but this isn't going to be castlevania.
I have a really cool idea for a really fresh and unique, but totally doable by one coder, semi-roguelike in mind, but that's in the future. I have enough knowledge of programming to put together something small. Dracula must Die isn't going to be a huge game, just traditional enough that I'll have previous roguelikes to look at and learn from, and just unique enough to challenge me and make me feel like I'm doing something unique.
Once I feel experienced, I'll work on my other idea. Even more than the defunct roguelike, I don't want to be the "I have this extremely ambitious idea for the best game ever but no ability or motivation whatsoever how i maek game" guy.
