Hmm, so feedback on idea here.
Far future, alien world. Space colonisation ship landed there a while back, and humanity isn't yet set up. Trying hard, and things are going ok for them, but always some new place to explore.
The protagonist is a zoologist. He is selected to attend on an expedition where he, and a small team of other specalists, will survay a small part of the planets ocean.
After some fun stuff that we get to see getting there, they are in a boat, middle of ocean, watching large, whale type creatures (That fill the ecolological role of earth sucker fish) when freaking huge creature shows up. Where talking island size. This thing starts hunting the whale things, and mistakes the boat for one. Everybody is knocked over board, boat is destroyed.
Hero guy wakes up on the shore, and from here on in it goes sci fi survival/adventure, with a strong emphasis on the wildlife and survuval methods.

Good? Bad? Come on, I'm a shallow guy, I need constant feed back. Although still writing no matter what you say.

I like it, I don't see a lot of Sci-Fi adventure/survival (probably because I don't look) but I'm liking that idea a lot. Is the hero going to find other survivers or be all on his lonesome?

Ok, so it is less sci fi and more 'Survive on a compleatly differant world with sci fi style critters, oh and check out those critters because they are a main attraction!' For the most part, lonesome. It will be interesting to see if I can take the idea from 'hatchet', a book I didn't mind too much in high school, though everybody else hated it, and do the same for furture level tecnology.

It sounds like your trying to make the creatures a mina part of the story. How about having them be useful for ceartain tasks? Like some are edable for humans and any other properties that you can think up.

I'm going for the 'look at this realy cool world! Don't you just want to be here! Have fun day dreaming about this place!' thing. Tolken did it more oftern then not, and just threw in battles and theifs just to keep the story moving. Orks were orks because the same force composed of humans was boring.

I sort of have a habit of making storys depressing, so maybe if I go for nutural ground of the observation of nature, I can avoid that.

I went into think thinking the Final Fantasy X laugh was going to be in there, but after watching that, I think those are a lot worse.

I just had the best idea ever.  A humorous meta-screenplay for a gangsta movie, written by a gangsta and starring said gangsta (playing himself)

It'd kick ass.
