Let's all be well-informed, here.

Isn't autism something that people would notice? I don't claim to know everything about it but from what I've seen it's something that tends to stand out a bit.

Asperger's, the catch-all phrase for a spectrum, from those who have real difficulties to people with intellect who spent isolated childhoods racking up weirdness points.

It's all about what you classify as disorder and what you classify as personality.  I'd probably just say "well, I have a bit of a strange personality, am a loner, and am very attuned to patterns."  Psychologists would diagnose me with an autism spectrum disorder.

So yes, whatever weird I'm radiating at a given moment is very noticeable.  The difficulty is in classification.


Hell, I wouldn't even say I have "social problems."  "Very low social tolerance or enjoyment," yes.  "Laziness when it comes to figuring out how people are feeling," yes.  "Little interest in putting effort into fitting in," certainly.

"Crippling social inadequacy and lack of knowledge of what is appropriate..." mostly when it comes to conversation topics, but then that's because I don't share that many interests with the main population and I prefer to, you know, discuss things I find interesting.

Meh.

Well, it's very noticable if you're at the more extreme end.

I guess that's the confusing element of autism (Asperger's being an autistic spectrum disorder)... it's not like Down's Syndrome where you either have it or you don't.  Which is one reason to question the usefulness of it as a term - it's not like anything's been diagnosed, you've just been given a label.

...And yeah, what Vector said.  Now I know never to extend the final syllable of "Kutsu" dramatically.

My therapist is awesome, because she is a vent to talk to and grounds me in reality. Everything she does, my friends try to do, but end up being less successful because of the fact that I view them as friends. A good therapist is a great friend that you don't call a friend.
