Got caught up with doing job applications for the stepdad(he pays me to do two a week for him), and now I'm owed $30.

There's still that 20 apps/week-for-three-weeks thing I have to do for the Dept. of Labor... :'(

Well, that was a rush. Did a dual-job on a single target in Uplink, snagged both files, and beat the trace. On my track cleaning, I noticed that regardless how long my path was, my target (who I've hit some time ago already) kept a reasonably short time gap on me (30-40 seconds). I didn't have time to clean my logging from their machine on my way out (I was carrying 2 copied files after all; and that is usually my first action/top priority; and there was roughly 10 seconds remaining (with a give or take by 5 seconds by my estimates; the tracers don't give an exact time, and that's generally my PoNR (Point of No Return) zone.)), but I saw that they got close on tagging me when I saw my second link with their marking. I may want to invest in that HUD upgrade. I can't depend on a timer for traces that move that quickly (plus, I may need to go IP-hunting for new servers/proxies to jump from. Fortunately I've wiped my most common proxies' logs (InterNIC and the tutorial servers) quite often, so at least that buffer zone keeps relatively clean.

Anyway, I may need to take some time off from raiding that server until the smoke clears. But hey, I got 2 jobs done in 1 shot. ;D

If not, I suggest doing so. more speed = faster password breaker
The NanosTECH highend mod on this page is probably the best (mod) Gateway comp you can get, if you can upgrade it enough.

I think I finally found a pillow configuration so that my back doesn't get fucked up while I'm studying.  Two solid buckwheat bags at the spots that usually hurt, and something soft to support my upper back.  It's so much easier to work, now.

I've seen it suggested to use InterNIC for your starting point for all jumps, since you can jump into it un-routed due to it's complete lack of tracing, active or passive. Thus you can clear out the logs of your routing and logs of logging in as admin without creating yet another trail. And as long as all you leave is a '127.0.0.1 connected' with its paired '127.0.0.1 disconnected' and of a course a '... connected' to pair with your disconnect when you stop editing the logs, you won't get caught. Even your high end non-mission bank heists won't catch you*.

As for the most fun, I personally like the 'completely esplode their mainframe computer' missions. I enjoy watching with an evil grin as I hack into a mainframe, go into the console and delete the user, system, and if I have time, log files (just for kicks mostly) before issuing a shutdown command and disconnecting. For extra lulz, you can combine it with a 'frame X for computer crimes' mission and instead of deleting the routing data, modify the InterNIC route log straight into their unhappy homes.

*Note that I use log deleter v4.0, as should you and everyone else.

Oh, and I got that same ending. Just be a workaholic and everything will be fine is more or less the moral of the story.
