Yeah, it's a sort of revenge.  It's the "revenge by being successful" model, though, which I intend to poke a number of holes in.

Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”

Would explain all the puppies and legions of children found in every fortress, but that's more like playing DF for the sex.  I suppose you could say people play it to get away from sex, judging by the number of fans who intentionally model themselves on Nikola Tesla's abstinence.
