With Gracie's Diner closed for the week break between fall and winter quarter, and my stash of food laid away to last until I leave on Wednesday, the furthest I have to travel is the restroom across the hall. And since my food is no longer time dependent, I can sleep and be awake at any time I want!

Today was an awesome work day. A friend and I literally stood and waited for nine hours straight with no work coming down the line, taking about stuff. The other three hours were normal work which didn't hurt my shoulders at all. Just as good, I talked my way into being switched to replen instead of picking, which is more fun and less strain on my back and shoulders.

More good news, I'm out of debt and can start Christmas shopping. This also means I can get the Killian's Irish Red I've been wanting for a month.

I work at a distribution center, so my weekends are three 12 hour shifts in three days. It's great when not painful and brutal when it is. It's also more money than any entry-level job around my area, so I haven't had any desire to leave it.

 Returning to Moderating the MC forums I was able to drop two permabans and like three temp bans. There is a sort of righteous fury one gets when doing these that really vents your stress.

Just wait until the day you're forced pull a double or lose your job (without being told about it before your shift starts), and then get slapped with "Mandatory Overtime" for another full shift (again, without being told about it before your shift starts). Yeah, there's a reason I don't work in factories anymore.

Yeah, there's a reason I don't work in factories anymore.

Sounds alot like my last job working at a tavern. Gave me a good reason to quit that place.

Regardless of having a class the very same day (I think it was also St. Patrick's Day too, so it was expected to be rather busy), and informing them days ahead of time even, I was forced to stick around until the next shift people came (2-3 hours late), despite the waitresses saying they can handle themselves without me (they even backed me up on that regard), I missed my class, they (the 2 new runners that I suspected were to take my place) didn't pull their weight (2 of them chatting with each other near-constantly vs me going solo servicing (running for) 200+ people, and I was doing 3/4 of the overall work load, with the waitresses pulling the other 1/4 I couldn't do alone), and despite me having sacrificed practically my soul for my job, I'm the one that gets in trouble for reminding my boss that I was not supposed to work overtime like that (all the crap I mentioned + over 12 hours of work done), and fortunately, my siblings just happened to be working there at the same time (volunteer work), and backed me up to get me the hell outta there (we failed, unfortunately, and I had to work until the dining part closed). Let's just say, when I quit (after pulling off one hell of a xanatos gambit over the course of a few weeks to allow me the option to quit before getting fired), they felt the impact losing me as their trump card for that level of work. I was able to pull the weight of 3 people (and multiple job positions) every day I worked there, and I was willing until I was taken advantage of for my services. Then I spitefully became a lazy shmuck.

EDIT:
At that time, I didn't care about the job market or anything; but to completely take advantage of someone that was willingly going the extra mile like that (pretty much daily, just to be nice) and to beat them down for it (whether it was me getting beaten down or not), is just begging for someone to return the favor (On the bright side, the waitresses and some of the bartenders did recognize how much I put into my job, and tipped me extra for my effort every other week). It was entertaining to force my boss to give me an option to continue working "like I used to when I first came in (IE-subservient unwitting slave), or to leave (what he thought was firing me, but was actually an option for me to quit)."; Nice choice of words there. I simply chose to quit and walk out without any emotional impact. I let time deliver the impact of my loss to the place. Stopping by a year later, an old co-worker told me that the impact of my leaving hit them hard, and things were much more difficult without me. They (at least the people I worked alongside) missed me the most. My managers were too arrogant to admit their mistake.

So yeah, like you feel about not working in factories anymore, that's how I feel about the service industry. And what I stated above wasn't the only time such crap happened either. That's just one of the worst-case scenarios still fresh in my memory.
