Just installed Descent: Freespace (1, I believe). Not familiar with how these ships fly and fire compared to *-Wings and Tie Fighters. The flight physics are much different from what I am more familiar with (as well as the button-layouts). Plus, the AI seems a little odd by comparison. Just finished basic training.

So far, it's okay; just... different. Plus, it's been ages since I last played a space combat sim; and on that note, I kinda want to replay X-Wing Alliance as well, see if I can beat my last rankings. I mean, I'm still a pretty darn good pilot (though in MP, I may not be, by comparison). In a way, I think it should be easy to beat my last rankings of Lt. Colonel, Ace 3rd Class through campaign mode (If anything, with my craving for danger, better awareness for bonus goals and etc. Captain and Top Ace 2nd Class should be easier ranks for me to obtain; at least, compared to my Tie Fighter (game) reports). I was a top ace of the Imperial forces.

Oh, and I got my first badge in D:FS, but only because I got excellent rankings on the training missions.

My cousins are coming out this weekend, and I am totally dragging them to the Renaissance Festival with me! I think I'm going to buy an english flute or panpipe there, and proceed to play it whilst frolicking about like a jolly jackanape. I may even wear a foppish hat, if one can be found.

Also making me happy is some delicious Ghallaba with tomatoes, peppers, onions, and carrots, and some Baklava. That and my fridge is filled with enough freshly-picked apples to make 5 pies. So many pies!

It was a good day.

Found out that the amount of modding needed to fly a star destroyer in X-Wing Alliance is comparable to 40d raw editing.

Now that the Air Show for today is over, (It was glorious.), I pop on the news to learn that the lightning storm today was shaking up all of San Diego. I am now amazed, it's kind of funny actually, people were freaking out about lighting that never hit anything. Sure the first one was random, and very close to me, but it wasn't that bad. And I have no idea why the Air Show was going on in these conditions.

Though I'd love to visit the West Coast again, sadly no... the apples were independent. This RenFest is 2/3 to the other side of the country.

Oh, flying big ships was fun, though they did crawl at base values (I preferred cruising in the Strike Cruiser). If I'm not mistaken, I think there was a way to arm any ship with the Death Star II's super laser that you see blast the M/CL2 Liberty into smithereens in the beginning of DSII Assault part 2. Makes one wonder how the hell a space suit managed to obliterate a super star destroyer in 1 shot.

Not my first time mentioning it, but has anyone checked out the XWA Upgrade project, or any of Darksaber's OPTs? Nothing like a graphics upgrade for a good game like that. And some pretty talented work as well. I think something similar was done with Freespace 1 or 2. I think it was 2.

I don't know why, but my favorite ship to skirmish with in XWA was the Cloakshape Fighter (XWAUP pics). It looked pretty neat, and was rather fun to fly. Sure, it wasn't the best-armed craft, nor the most maneuverable, was a pretty wide stingray-like shape the size of a freighter, but it was rather durable for a fighter (plus I liked the history behind it in-universe as a ship made for modifying.), but that's probably what made it so fun. I saw that ship like Malcom Reynolds saw the Firefly 'Serenity'. Add to it, I tend to have the most fun blowing the crap out of everyone inside an asteroid field. For added challenge (and added suck) battle in a minefield.

I just remembered, there was a TIE Fighter mod for XWA as well. Looked promising.

Considering I have a space background, I just added one of the images of it to use as a rainmeter skin for decoration. It looks right for it, and I also have pics of it from other angles, so it'll work for other backgrounds I would use too.
