Lost's ending was better than I expected, and surprisingly, my mom got it since the first episode.

I know you're tempted to read this whether you have seen the entire series or just heard about it, or whatever; but this does make sense once you put the pieces together. Everything just about made sense (especially with my out of box thinking in the regard), and I came to an agreement as I was catching up with my family initially about that thought.













































This massive blank space is necessary. Final warning.























































The island was purgatory the entire time. The side-verse was a pocket universe that everyone's residual memory formed to allow everyone to meet up, and Desmond was essentially "assigned" to throw a reunion party. Within the side-verse, the conditions simulated as if the crash never happened, and more ideal circumstances formed. That is, until Desmond stepped in, he came in when the time was right to wake everyone up from a sleep between purgatories (island and "real"). Their lives before the crash were real, but they died in the crash. Micheal's ghost in an earlier episode explained how it was Purgatory simply by explaining that the voices on the island were lost souls that cannot get over their past, and won't move on toward the future. Primarily those who cannot forgive themselves, or those who wronged them. And if you're going to ask about the Oceanic 8 season, that was all part of the island. Notice how Penny was amongst the reunion?

Now, as for Jacob and his brother the smoke monster, they were essentially equivalent to the devil and angel on the shoulders; but they were also trapped in the same cycle (though not amongst the reunion party). Jacob was quicker to forgiving himself for his actions, and has been on a reeeeeally long trip to redemption; as per function of Purgatory. Those who have had a hard time forgiving themselves or moving on are usually those who lived the longest. The whole show was their story on how they got over themselves and moved on. As as seen with the ending, the smoke monster was a really stubborn spirit that wanted out of Purgatory by force. He quickly became equivalent to a demon, which also explains why he turned into a smoke monster. His hostility overtook his soul. He needed to be stopped so that the island can continue it's job of serving as a proving and cleansing ground; which also explains the glowing spring machine.

Any more I would say would be equivalent to me talking out my ass, so I leave Lostpedia to the rest. From here on is filler space.
