The fact that people over 40  blithely use the phrase "hook up" to mean "meet", completely oblivious to what they are saying to the ears of everyone under 40

You could just know a lot of really healthy old people.

Would you believe I didn't actually know until like a month ago?

Odd, considering I go to a Catholic school.

Hmmm. I'm in Spanish yet we haven't used anything like that. Haven't really seen any school headphones around actually. And stealing from Special-ed is a moral event horizon. I am not doing that.

Yes.  Don't, or I will personally eat your head over IRC >_>

And that's interesting... it's probably because I come from a relatively wealthy school district, so we have a really well-maintained language lab.  Sorry, doodabuddy.  On the other hand, if you have any relatives that are planning to take a plane flight soon, you might be able to get a pretty cheap pair that way.
Well, my school seems to focus on tech. Technology is in the freaking name. So I guess that the foreign languages don't get the biggest part of the budget. And our district has been cutting back, due to the recession. Teachers being laid off, stuff like that.

No, I mean unambiguously. As in my grandpa saying "Well you go on ahead to the farmer's market, then we'll hook up later at the book fair" or whatever. Or my mom saying "So you're going to hook up with those people you know in Israel once you get there" (as in HANG OUT WITH THEM) (that one just happened recently, or something like it, IIRC)

To be fair, I wouldn't expect Grandpa to know, but Mom really should. And they're hardly the only ones

Ooh, your area actually respects the "one dollar" part of "dollar store."  That's cool.  Our dollar stores are lamesauce.

Then build a pair! >_> <_<

The radio we made from almost nothing in my physics class only got crazy conservative radio, though, so your mileage may vary.

And yeah, in that case you've got almost no chance for headphones.  It's not like the chem or shop students are going to be using them.

Indeed, nothing was said of quality. And most cheat headphones nowadays have enough quality to hear most details.

I'm in IT focusing on programming! They don't teach you how to build headphones. But the radio thing is hilarious!

Heh, I once built a speaker system out of a Styrofoam cup, legos, wire, and a 100-pound magnet. This is simple and boring. Then I replaced the Styrofoam cup with a turkey baster. It was huge and awesome due to the shear hilarity of playing relatively hi-quality music(better than my laptop's speakers anyway) from a turkey baster sitting on a pile of legos.

I've got a pair of $65 earphones...

But yeah, I actually spent a while in high school saving up for them. They're like my dream-phones.

I'm so happy!  The doctor was wrong.  I wasn't hallucinating!  I do have sores in my mouth.  She just didn't see them, apparently (they're kind of hard to see, since they're at the back).  This means that I have lost a large stack of crazy points, which is always a relief.  Makes me kind of sad to see the ridges on my tongue/cheeks due to bruxism (tooth grinding.  I just happen to think that's an awesome word), though.

Time to charge my electric toothbrush in hopes of fixing my oral hygiene >_>  Good lord, I've turned into a disgusting person over the past year.  I can't believe I used to actually brush and floss my teeth three times a day.  And make my bed daily... and check my email... and play computer games... and watch anime... and read books.  I never went to sleep with my boots on or passed out on the floor.  I didn't dream about mathematics, either--just about being lonely.  I didn't feel so comfortable getting in big flaming arguments or contradicting people.  I had no idea how to get people to stop doing things that were annoying me.

My handwriting has shrunk and I am considering taking differential equations courses to go with my (extremely) theoretical background.  I see elegant solutions easily, like popping a balloon or picking a flower.  I no longer fear six-hour stints working on the same problem, nor induction, nor construction, nor contradiction.  I no longer see the future as a bleak thing which I have no chance of confronting.

For the first time in my life, I feel alive.  I've stopped asking whether or not the world exists.  I've stopped fearing my few friends will abandon me, or that no one likes me.  I've stopped feeling that I have to hide myself to survive.  I feel like... well, I don't know.  For once, I'm being adequately challenged with material I genuinely enjoy, and it's nice.

I guess this is what growing up really means.

I pass out on the floor and I'm still happy. :V

Just joking. but seriously, I sometimes just lie on the floor, admiring the bloody beautiful trait of marble tiles getting cold real quick and then I fall asleep suddenly. I feel rested all the time!
