Happy because I'm home.
I had to post it again because I realize now that I was a tad homesick while out. Sure, my town may not be much compared to cities, but it's a nice familiar small town. Still rather cold around here, but not freezing like further up.
Oh, and I finally got my brother to start a succession fort with me. Just as I predicted; not a good enough grasp of the game to the point of questioning some of my dwarfy solutions to certain problems, and my less-than-organized setup of getting things done.
Although I didn't get the last season done and dealt with (which involved mining out the living quarters) before I left, I at least passed some knowledge of playing and explained some fun elements of the game while playing. I also found a decent workaround for our embark location lacking a river. Make reservoirs and a floodgate sewer system to keep water pressure in check while allowing water to be used throughout the fortress, starting with a legendary dining/drinking hall. Oh, and our expedition leader (which I also gave some fighting skills) managed to break the necks of an entire squad of dark gnomes pestering the team.
Hopefully, his year should play out well, otherwise I'll be having some fun of my own trying to fix it, and explain to him why i had to do what I did (which made up most of my turn while I was playing). I sense this will happen for a majority of the fort, and make it run at a rather slow pace.
On an unrelated note, I just got a decent amount of hours of work this week, further plunging me out of debt. Now if next week provides me with just as many or more, then I'll be made. If I can also somehow tie in freelancing to coexist with it, then I'll really have it made.
