I installed Saints Row III today, thinking it might be some light GTA-style fun.

They did all of them actually, they just changed names some time between Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights (probably the one you're thinking of).  And if it wasn't Bioware it was Obsidian.

I would say "and there's your proof Bioware used to make really good games", but actually they were all pretty lame for anyone who absolutely doesn't love D&D.  Except Planescape: Torment of course, but even that was oh wait Obsidian.

True, there was a lot of intermixing there. More accurately, it was technically Bioware, but I've got something of an implicit internal division between older Bioware and their more modern rubbish.
