Remember how I said I got 2nd at FNM yesterday? On a certain level I feel I don't deserve it, cause I made the stupidest mistake and my opponent let me get away with it. He could have simply decided to force me to lose, but he gave me a chance and I won.
Excuse me I'm gonna get into MTG nerd lingo here.
You see, what happened was: He has his 2/2 vigilance knight token on the table, attacking. He uses his Kessig Wolf Run to pump his attack power to completely unmanageable levels. I try to searing spear it, dealing three damage to it, but in response he uses another selesnya charm to give it +2/+2 and make it a 4/4 saving it however narrowly.
Now, the ability to do BASIC ARITHMETIC has left my brain at this point, so the fact that I have a Staff of Nin (Tap: Deal 1 damage to target creature or player) on the table completely escapes me, so I think that I've lost. I even shake his hand and start picking up my cards, but then I realize the truth and starting going WAITWAITWAITWAIT...WAIT! Cause I finally figure out I just tap my thing, his thing has 4 damage marked on it which matches it's 4 toughness, and his thing dies. He's a super cool guy apparently, cause he could just go "NOPE! Game's over pal, I win." but he allows me to back up and kill his creature. He must have realized that a mistake that small yet that significant would have me kicking myself all night, and he didn't want to do that.
After that, he runs out of steam and I win. Then I win the next game and get the round win. I was holding my head in COMPLETE AND UTTER DISBELIEF at this point. Getting 2nd and getting the two pack prize almost feels dirty. Almost, cause a win is still a win I guess.
