Hell, I've given books away. I didn't like them and was never gonna read them again, and I'm frequently getting new books to fill up shelf space.

Why would you give away bad books? That is just rude! People are going to think that the books you give them are so good that you wanted everybody to know how great they were, and then BAM they find themselves neck deep in twilight bondage fan-fiction.

And I give the books to libraries or book drives, where people who actually like the things can get them. I'm sharing!

DrPoo's revelation brings up something I've always been curious about the transgendered. That it's something of a contradiction.

On the one hand, you're making a decision that willingly acknowledges that self-identifying as any one of two arbitrary binary choices is meaningless. Not one has any special relevance or importance, empathy and physical identification are just imagined constructs, and I don't see why anyone would even BOTHER to choose, in a world that's increasingly ambivalent to such superfluous things. It's a pointless self-identification, just how I've always seen it.

Then on the other hand, knowing that, a person still chooses to self-identify as one over the other, despite making the previous decision in acknowledging that it's wholly arbitrary. With all the baggage that it entails even. I find it hard to believe that someone can even make a choice that significant.

Don't take this as criticism, cause it's not. Just curious.

Only problem: What choice? There is no choice involved, except the choice to acknowledge it.

My answer to that is that it's always been a social construct, but that doesn't mean it doesn't affect people or mean a lot to them.

YESS!! All A's and B's this semester. I'm not even very smart and I got on the Dean's list!

*I failed math with a D, no surprise there.  Though there is something odd with seeing the grades and knowing that if I got 7 more questions right on the final I would have passed.

*I got a B in humanities. Also no surprise there (Thank you DF for teaching me so much about ancient metallurgy that my paper on the subject got a 95%)

*And I passed programming by some miracle.  I had accidentally failed to turn in a big fraction of the assignments, this morning when I checked to see if grades were in yet I noticed that the turnin box for the assignment was reopened.  Yay my teacher has a heart!  There was a 50% deduction for lateness but that turned in bumped me from a 69.5% to a 74% so I passed!  Happy!

And then I sold my humanities book for $70 right when I thought I would not have money for Christmas gifts this year.  See there's great reason to sell books!  Especially worthless text books!

 unhappy + happy + (happy ^ 2) + happy = (happy ^ 2) + happy.   So in this thread it goes!
