I've murdered the Jarl of Whiterun for having a nicer chair than me

A perfectly good reason to kill someone.

During PE a guy threw a shoe (probably at me), and it hit my foot.
So i threw the shoe on the tribunes. The guy had to go all the way around to get it. He was pissed, and i was happy.

(Our gym room has elevated tribunes on one side, you have to leave the gym room and go up some stairs to get there. If you go even higher up the stairs you'll get to where we usually do gymnastics and that stuff. We were coming from the second room.)

I prefer my original reading of it. I pictured something like the infamous Bush "shoe-ing", only the tribune didn't duck in time, and it got stuck in that big comb thing on top of the helmet.

No.. Tribunes were military rank, above the Centurions of a Legion.

False and false. Tribunes were elected by the plebians of Rome and had veto power over the Senate. They were a power check on the patricians. Originally, they couldn't be touched, to keep angry patricians from having them snuffed. One of the many, many constitutional problems that Rome ran into during the late Republic was that people kept killing off tribunes.

We seem to be talking about two different types of Tribune here. I'm talking about military Tribunes, not the Tribune of the People.

Yeah, there was a military rank of tribune as well, primarily staff officers rather than direct commanders. The chain of command generally went:

Centurion->Primus Pilus (seniormost centurion in the legion)->Legate.
