I think you're missing the point if you havent realized that's what he did too.
If that was in reference to me:
I respect people as human beings. That doesn't mean I have to respect their choices or actions, especially when they're encouraging the propagation of ignorance. I'm perfectly fine to take a live-and-let-live approach to life, but I'm also not going to sit back and passively ignore a purported educator deliberately feeding misinformation to students, especially when they try to weasel out of a real discussion with semantics games and topic changes. If (in a rather topical example) someone takes the existence of their god on faith, sure. Doesn't bother me; it's a purely personal decision. But the moment they start using faulty logic in an attempt to justify their belief, I'm obligated to point out that they are, in fact, using faulty logic. On a similar note, if they pressure me with their religious beliefs,
especially conversion attempts, I'm not going to ignore it. Frankly, that's one of my biggest beefs with Christianity. I don't have nearly as many theology-related issues with people of other faiths (or with the Christians I know IRL who aren't pushy about it); I've never gotten into an argument about the existence or nature of god with a Jew or Muslim.
tl;dr: Don't try to convert me and we'll be fine. Don't use faulty reasoning to try and justify your beliefs if you don't want me to happily spend a bunch of time poking holes in it. I tend to have a very, very long fuse, both in terms of temper and annoyance. But confronting me with bullshit? Especially bullshit dealing with ethics or philosophical problems? Especially when it's coming from someone that I'm paying (albeit indirectly) to be a relatively unbiased source of information? That's like giving a six year old chocolate cake and telling them not to eat it.
