Wolfenstein3D and Doom for me. I played them both within the same day, sometime in roughly '94. Despite this, I still suck at FPS games. :-\

Mine was Breathless on the Amiga. Pretty standard doom-clone, looking at videos now.

Being about 4 at the time, I wasn't particularly good at it.

Which sort? Because there's a world of difference between Goldeneye and Counterstrike or ARMA, never mind Doom/Wolfenstein/Quake in contrast to CoD.

I grew up with a bunch of old DOS shareware games. Until I got AoE. I learned more from AoE and II than I did from my first 8 years of history classes.

My happy for this post is remembering Battle for Atlantis. That forever defined what I think of as a good strategy game.

old computer, dad who loved the fuck out of the game.

he was annoyed when he couldn't find the old disc (floppy?) for it.

actually, I just remembered that there was a side-scroller that I played before that. I can only remember one part, and that's green blobs that burst out of glass canisters to try and kill you.

But seriously, what year did YOU play it first?

I think my first FPS was TF2. I'm not a huge consumer of the genre.

edit: wait, no, it was Urban Terror.

Rainbow Six on the Playstation when I was seven. Now I play my younger brother's CoD games on Veteran difficulty. Why you so easy Modern Warfare?

Yeah, I just got back from FNM. I'm really happy because my edited Mono Black Control pile scored me 3 wins and 1 loss. Way better than what I usually do, granted I got some good matchups against two infect decks which are notoriously weak against instant removal and boardsweeps, of which I had in spades and more.

Two highlights: popping my foil Liliana of the Dark Realms ultimate to get myself a BAJILLION black mana, and then mill somebody in one fell stroke with a Sands of Delirium. Secondly, I stole some dude's Krenko, a legendary gobbo that makes gobbos, and made a goblin army bigger than his and just crushed him under the resulting swarm.

My only loss was against a guy packing strangleroot geists, and having to kill a hasty dude twice is a real pain, and I don't have anything that would exile it. Actually, I did, but I forgot to sideboard it. Silly me. Undying is a real beat when trying to run control.

I didn't win any packs, but I'm just glad I did so well.
