Personally, I'd set a couple of shelves aside for stuff you've read, and then sort by subject (and, within those groupings, in the order you think you should read the works).  From there, it's a lot easier to figure out what you need to do without getting overwhelmed.  I'm about to set off and do something along those lines, myself, since my shelves have gotten astoundingly messy over the past few years.

My books are already spread everywhere but in order, and overwhelmed is how I live every day of my life.  So screw it, I compiled a list.

That's certainly not all the books I've read, just the ones I own.  But it's pretty close to all that I've read, and certainly all that I've read in the past six or seven years.  Pretty thin list really.  But it's actually easier for me to look at all compiled together instead of spread over all my furniture.  Funnily enough, I remember starting a thread specifically for talking about reading, some time ago.  No need to bump or create any threads though, at least by me.

No wonder I'm so depressed about reading though, look at that list.  Twenty seven books about religion, politics, or war, many of them now rendered years out of date.  I need some new hobbies.

Gray plastic syndrome, man.  Just like Warhams.  If you buy everything all at once, you'll be too intimidated by the mountain of books to read them all.

I'm going to build my collection one or two books at a time.  A full bookshelf will look so awesome, especially when I puff my pipe and say "Yeah, read every last one"  Oh yeahhhh.

Oh.  Ohhhh.  Yeah, that's a completely different situation.  I thought you were more in my situation, where doing such a chronicling would leave you with a list 30 pages long and a gigantic headache.  My house is absolutely packed with books--I have four double-shelved bookcases in my room alone.  Then there's my dad's big shelf of Russian novels, and some four other shelves in the study/computer room/whatever, plus the stuff in the garage... and most of it is stuff that every well-cultured young lady should read a few times, or at least skim.

Finish Neuromancer--it's great =)

Also, you said you lived in Dallas/Fort-worth, right?  Might find this of interest, though I don't know how far away you are.  The other official ones in Texas are listed here.

What made me exuberant today: We finally built my brother his own room in the basement and moved him in. This now means I have my own room. This means that I can customize now. We've got my desk and computer moved up already, my section of the boxes of books hauled up from the basement, shelving placed in, my bean-bag chairs and gaming consoles neatly arranged around the TV, and I can actually put objects in my room without my brother bitching about how cluttered the room gets.

I'm going to beat XCOM: UFO Defense.  I'm going to do it, that's my goal right now.  I've got about a hour in and I'm playing on Begineer, but...

1.  I'm not save scumming.
2.  I have never won so why not start easier?

Also, a question for you all.  Have any of you ever beat XCOM and have any advice?

1.  I'm not save scumming.

This is probably a good idea.  You can easily get addicted to save-scumming, when watching your squaddies drop like the nameless flies they are is half the point of the game.  You should make occasional back-saves though, in case you get base-raided by a snakeman battleship in March, like what happened to me once.

... I'm playing on Begineer, but...
2.  I have never won so why not start easier?

This is just dumb though.  The game is virtually the same at all difficulty levels, especially in combat.  But at Superhuman, the AI tries to play by some strategy, so it's actually worth playing.

As for advice, I have very little.  Make medkits your first priority - casualties are to be expected, but nothing is more infuriating than watching your kickass Captain bleed out from a 1-point wound.  Blow the crap out of all structures all the time - if it isn't Elerium or one of your own squaddies, it is worthless to you, including civilians.  Establish crossing lanes of fire, and always have a back-up squad.  Get power armor as soon as possible.  Don't even bother attacking bases or large ships until you have that armor.

Correction. The game is the same in all difficulty's. BESIDES the first combat. After that you're back to beginner. To fix that use Xcomutil or some other tools to run on top of it or play the gold edition that has the bug fixed.

And superhuman is actually vastly different when played and the game sticks to it. Some of the scaling is thrown out the window, it's very possible to fight Mutons within the first month.

Hey, it's a game with a lot of lore and superstition behind it.  Forgive me if I forgot some details.  But that sounds like a great idea, I'll have to try Xcomutil.
