I've had three retail jobs, with a total of about two-and-a-half years of experience. Better than a kid fresh out of high school, but not spectacular, either.

Problem is, I quit a job at a restaurant in favor of one of those retail jobs several years ago, and quit one retail job earlier this year because A) it sucked (Several near-emotional breakdowns where I was quite literally about to collapse from stress kind of suck) and B) I was going through a hard time (Unnecessary job stress may have been a big part of that). The managers at Wal-Mart told me that they were leery of hiring me based on that alone, and I think that I've missed other, more preferable job opportunities for the same resignation. Either folks didn't quite understand the stress I was going through, or they thought I was exaggerating. Most likely I just couldn't communicate my reasons effectively.

So in that light, I need to pad up my resume to make myself look like less of a job-hopping emotional baggage train. Luckily Wal-Mart was willing to give me the benefit of the doubt from our interview, rather than basing their opinion entirely on what was on paper. I'd like to avoid giving that impression entirely in future job opportunities, and a solid three years in one company sounds like a good way to do that. Worst case scenario, I can use moving as an excuse to get out of it.

This is becoming less and less Happy material, but I'm happy, really!

Woo, paychecks! :D

I feel like he revealed it somewhere before. Maybe it was the "Origins of your username" thread? Or talking about Minecraft? I have no idea anymore, but I remember him saying someone more experienced than him somewhere suggested or called him that and it stuck.

Got a letter from m'boy.

FWEEEEEE

Haven't read it yet, just gonna keep it and look at it for a while :3
*assumes girly, legs folded, sleepover position* Oooo, a real letter? Is it a hand written one? What's it say what's it say?
*ditto* :)
I suppose I should join in too! :3

It's a real letter, but it isn't handwritten, it's typed (boo) and kind of surprisingly short.  It's super-sweet, though.  It was a letter that was warmly written and made me feel like he was there with me.  We took a walk to see the super-moon together, so he talked about how he was looking at the solar eclipse and wished I was there to share that.

See, he also had a conference last week and then he had to move, so it seems like he wrote the letter just the moment he could.  It had some funny parts, too, and he signed it "fondest wishes" (squee~  That's pretty good!).

The only thing is that he hasn't seemed to quite realize that snail mail isn't like emails.  You put a lot of effort into a letter because it's going to take so long to get there, and you write it by hand because it has to communicate your presence across a good deal of time and space.  And more than that, it has to last the other person a while.  You put every ounce of you into it that you can.  What you saw, how you feel, what you hope for.  It's harder to ask questions, so you have to volunteer more information... that's the essence of a "love letter."

So what I'm saying is, he shoulda written more.

But I think that's something that our generation has a really hard time understanding.  There's nothing wrong with that.  I'm only educated in the old way because I have a particularly old-fashioned and artistic mother; I make sure I always have stationery to write letters, while I've met only one other person my age who did that (and she, similarly, learned the habit matrilinearly).  He can definitely learn something as simple as this, and I actually have faith that he will.

And if he doesn't, that'll probably be fine.  I'm still crazy about him, and it was a really, really endearing piece of writing.

(On that note, I'm better and my room is nearly 100% clean, so after checking in tomorrow morning and sending off the last couple PMs I'm going to wipe my password from this computer [not my main one, don't worry] and be gone again for quite a while.  However, I'll probably drop by every once in a while for updates on how things are going.

I'll really miss you guys, and I'll be thinking of you.  No need for massive farewells, though.  I'll be back to say stupid stuff before you know it)

I'm watching Ninja the Protector, god this movie is so bad. The acting, the plot, the music...

Just look at this trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scs0vs1smfc

EDIT: Nah, its not as good as I thought, it doesnt have enough ninja scenes. Most is just long boring streches of bad acting without ninjas.

EDIT2: The plot doesnt make any sense...  ???

EDIT3: The ending was worth it.  :D

I'm in a super-good mood for no reason today. Hung out with my childhood best-friend from 1 to 6 AM, and now I'm writing Lore for my scifi novels and RP series, which means I'm finally going to get back to GMing Rise of Hyperion and Anarchy Unlimited. =)

Anyone happen to be knowledgeable on the subjects of astrophysics, geophysics, and general scifi badassery? I've got thousands upon thousands of paragraphs of written material but I want to go in a different direction and just come up with new ideas for the next few days.

If anyone is willing to read through endless streams of content, shoot me a message! I need folks to run ideas through to make sure they're coherent and don't suck =D

It's 7AM in Dallas.  One of the main thoroughfares across town has been shut down since 1AM because of a multiple-semi accident, one of which was a cattle trailer that tipped over, spilling crazy cows all over the highway, at least one of which is still running around.

I'm basically laughing my ass off, because my commute goes straight over the area, completely unaffected.

Meanwhile, my power flickered off over the night, but apparently it'll be completely off for most of my neighborhood until this evening.  For once, exactly once, my block is not the one that will be dark for two days.

Just before I caught part of a Power Rangers episode when I happened to switch on the TV. Now, I used to watch Power Rangers a lot when I was a kid, and whilst this is a new, modern version, I was incredibly pleased to see they stay true to the spirit of the show: Over-the-top, ridiculously hammy acting, cheesy sound effects, gaudy costumes, rather fake-looking choreographed fight scenes, and above all a sense of fun. :D
Despite the new actors, the modern setting and such, it somehow still felt like the good old Power Rangers.
Not like how they've butchered so many of my other childhood shows...

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
