What is this Toefl score you speak of?

Also Workerdrone's post about his happy made me feel warm inside. Or happy.

The Toefl is a standerdised test that tests your ability to comprehend and speak English by asking you inane questions, having you read inaen passages and talking, through a microphone, no less, about inane subjects. The internet based test is out of 120, and I got around 117.

Found out I'll be able to continue doing a language at 6th form even if I don't do an A Level in one.  Interesting caveat: it would be as an enrichment activity (on timetable), and thus would be one I haven't done before.  Hmm, let's see, Spanish, Italian, Japanese or Chinese?

Spanish, Japanese and Italian are probably the easiest to speak, while Spanish and Italian are the easiest to read. I don't know if I ought to recomend Chinese, because I know a guy that went to China, and instead of asking for the price of a dumpling, asked a store owner the price of spending some intamate time together.

Japanese is probably the easiest on an English tongue, because it is pretty much composed of sylables, but Italian and Spanish are more comprehensible because they are Romantic.

Spain and Italy are considerably cheaper to get to from the UK, but if you prefer something exotic, China and Japan.

On a day to day level, Spanish and Italian are probably more handy given your location.

What it really boils down to is whether you can imagine yourself using these languages on a day to day basis, because If you don't, the chances of forgetting the language is that much greater.

It's not entirely a question of use, though.  It wouldn't be a full qualification - it's just a sortof club/ enrichment activity.  I'll be sure to bear such advice in mind, though.

Speaking of Spanish, this morning I had to take half of a mid-term exam.  The other half was on Friday, which I slept through.  So I absolutely needed to ace the second half to have a shot at a passing D for the course.

So naturally, I fall asleep again, only to wake up 15 minutes before the period starts.  It's an hour period, the drive is normally 35-40 minutes, then a 10 minute hike across campus.  I am destined to fail this course, and on any other day, I would have been utterly fucked.  But not today.  Because today, I didn't have to drive my temperamental, rattletrap, slow-as-molasses Jeep.

No, today I just so happened to be borrowing my father's car.  The Fabulous Thunderbird, 440 cubic inches of all-American whoopass, custom suspension, hand-built air ram, Lenco four in the floor, and nitrous disguised as a wiper-fluid bottle.  Even with traffic, what was normally a 35-40 minute drive took 21, in air-conditioned comfort.

Leaving me just enough time to jog halfway across campus before remembering just how out of shape I am, but with enough time to scratch out the exam and try to cajole some sympathy from the professor.

If I had a car like that it'd be a very cold day in hell before I let anyone, most of all my son, borrow that... So I'll have to conclude that you "borrowed" it  :D

It makes me unbelievably happy that I have a computer with internet access in my room again, even if it is my crappy ancient slow laptop.

It made me scared that I couldn't log into the university network because my 'account is expired'.
Then I tried the password change thingie, which told it didn't work because the account is, of course, expired.

Then I logged in with the new password and it worked ;D

I got to spend the last five hours out with sis because she had the day off. And I think she has tommorow off too so we get to stay up late together. :3
