Made my day, too. Probably my week ;D

Out of curiosity, is there anything one can do about such "burn ins" or is it just to buy a new screen?

You get a screen thats less likely to have burn-in is one way to do it.

What is this sorcery?
...

die. please. I shall not suffer to have that on my monitor again.

What. The. Fuck?

Just had yet another embarrassed call from my dad.  Apparently he left his bedroom TV switched on, with a porno film paused.  Now there's a massive pair of hairy bollocks burned into the screen.

I really should just set him up with someone.
While I like massive hairy balls as much as the next guy, I'm wondering you posted this in the happy thread.

Hee hee  :D

Odds are it's just strong image retention rather than true burn in (modern screens take a long time to actually burn in). You can get rid of it by having a lot of changing images for an extended period. Either any channel that is full screen with no fixed elements (no news tickers or logos) on high brightness for a long time, random static or a dedicated screen-fix DVD/program.

Reminds me of a (possibly mythical) story of a guy selling a really big TV on ebay for free because he let his friends housesit while he was on holiday for like a month and they left a still of some gay porn on it for the whole time.

we've come full circle.
Or it just goes to show that Alabama is even more of a low-wage hellhole than Guangdong.

Nah, this is a pretty shrewd business decision. If 90% of your copper tubes are being sold to the US, why not just make them there and save on shipping costs? Although it begs the question, is there not an American company that makes precision copper tubes?

Happiness! I have found temporary work! I have a couple of gigs lined up for various companies that move stuff. Private, business, big stuff, small stuff, all kinds. One of today's jobs was commissioned by social welfare officials, that usually means that the 'clients' aren't as well to do as most. Sure enough, we go in and we find three drug addicts, two of which are dosed up on god knows what. We barely got the paper work sorted out when cops came in. "Hello, we'd like you three in for questioning". Next thing you know, it's just me and my co-worker emptying the apartment. Bathroom smelled like amphetamine and we counted 25 used syringes all over the apartment, some of which were lodged in the furniture we hauled out. A decent day, I might try and sign up as a regular here.

Alternatively, use a specially made VHS to cleanse your monitor.

I wrote this in a political apathy discussion elsewhere on the internet. It isn't quite perfect, but it got +5 funny anyway. I could probably do better on the metaphors and parody.

"Yea. Given the choice of Lovecraftian horrors, I vote for Narlyhotep over Cthulhu every time. I know they say Narlyhotep is a dirty african socialist, but he just wants society to exist so we can worship at his yellow robed feet. And Cthulhu is basically running on the platform of "vote for me and I will eat you all". And don't even get me started on Azathoth, sure it claims to be a viable alternative, but then madness and all you can do is chant "vote Azathoth 2012!" whenever anyone expresses the slightest dissatisfaction with the status quo."

But Nyarlathotep doesn't wear yellow robes!

Some of his forms do. He appears as a pharaoh is brightly colored robes, and in the Plateau of Leng his acolytes wear yellow robes. Yellow is associated with more than just he who shall not be named.

Edit: adding happy!

So I just bought a house, and i still have the money to pay off my car! And I'll have the money to pay off my credit cards within 2 months.
And by the end of the year I will be able to cut my student loan burden by at least 1/3. If things keep going like this, in under 2 years of frugal living I can pay off ALL my debts with interest higher than inflation. And I am doing this while also putting money in my 401k (which has seen a growth rate of nearly 14%).
