I find that starship MMOs are apparently really popular recently.

Which is terrible, because I wanted to start planning one, but there's not really a point as the market is being flooded. Even if the game I made was any good (doubtful), it would inevitably be buried under tides of crap games.

And it probably wouldn't even scratch WoW's market share.

Were you to make an indie mmo, the number of players you'd probably be realistically shooting for is a few thousand, not beating WoW.

That's as silly as making a homemade OS to overtake Windows.

You could make a wild west mmo, or a mmo about tribal island life. Neither of those exist yet.

I got inspired when the Star Trek MMO got announced a few years back, then super disappointed when I learned that it was not in fact a first-person explore-em-up and console-em-up.  I started working on mine for the cockpit-themed TigSource challenge a couple years back.  My attempt lasted about 2-3 weeks, then uh..."relationship issues" made me not really interested in working on much for a while.  Mostly I did it because, just like Notch said about 0x10^c (paraphrased), "I don't care if I make it, as long as someone makes it so I can play it".  And since 0x10^c looks fun but STILL not what I had in mind...well, maybe I'll work on it again.  The core concept is like Puzzle Pirates in space as an FPS.

Knowing me, though, don't get your hopes up.  I can never finish a personal project even if my life depends on it.
