Guess I need to start spamming some threads.

Updating my resume with all the things I did this past quarter. The number of portfolio projects has doubled, and seems almost as if my programming knowledge has too.

I learned assembly with both MIPS and AGAL and did graphics programming in Flash Stage3D, DirectX 11, and OpenGL. I even learned about the Deep Magic where the software levels meet hardware levels. It's been a hell of a 10 weeks.

Now to find a summer co-op...

Got TightVNC running on my desktop; hardly an ideal solution, but at least now I can do stuff with my desktop until I get a new monitor... not much stuff, but at least get files and such off it. Getting the server up on the desktop was a huge pain. The installation and setup itself is really easy; except in cases where the only monitor you have to do it with is mostly dead and gives you between .5 and 1 second to see what is on screen every 10 seconds; turning the monitor off and back on after each time so as to keep it from frying itself (and it seems to make a screeching noise too, go figure).

Based on the noise, I would suspect the monitor has a fan which failed, followed by something overheating and melting.

On a related note: It turns out you can not, in fact, use a laptop as a monitor for a desktop simply by plugging the DVI on the desktop into a DVI-Analog converter and then into the Analog slot on the laptop, even though it will fit. Doing so, I can also surmise, is a bad idea. Doing so with my laptop on and the desktop off turned the desktop into a sort of franken-puter in which the case LEDs and fans started sort of pulsating... I'm not entirely sure how all the wiring in a computer works, but I sure as hell know from now on that doing that is a terrible idea which I'm lucky didn't fry anything (or at least, not that I noticed). This is probably the first case I have personally seen in which the mantra 'if the cable fits it belongs there' doesn't hold true.

Had a FRC District event yesterday/Friday. So awesome. My team's alliance made it to finals. The team we lost to curb stomped their quarterfinal and semifinal opponents, but we came close in the first match and then got curb stomped ourselves.

I'm not disappointed, as the other robots were very good. We got in two triple balances (in which all three robots on an alliance are balanced, including a match in the finals with both alliances triple balanced.

In that picture, my team is 573; it's the rightmost robot on the blue alliance. 67 (rightmost red) was undoubtedly the best robot in the event, and 469 was very good as well. Our seats are the crowd of orange near the top of the far stands (I'm in the left half of the front row), and one of our partners (3098, middle blue) is the group right in front of us.

Interestingly enough, there were 573 teams competing this weekend. Good luck to any othe FRC participants here; I hope we meet you in St. Louis.
