You know there's an assload of "lets all play DnD together online" threads down in Forum Games right?

I don't browse them myself, so you probably already knew that and are just pestering to be allowed to play.  Whatev.

No, actually, I didn't, so thank you. But I am in a Steam group for that sort of thing now, and it's only a matter of time before we hit DnD.

Yeah, me, too.  I'm actually in a group, but we haven't met for something like a year or so due to everyone suddenly going to college in completely different parts of the country/other countries.  Bah, I miss playing my bumpkin ranger with an inferiority complex  :'(

Last game I got a chance to play was AD&D DM'd by my (probably vaguely autistic) cousin.  Rolled up a rogue with 5 int >_>  That was a weird night, especially because the Big Dumb Fighter was in the middle of getting drunk IRL and the only other player was a harebrained druid.

Speaking of D&D I had a blast the other night playing with my group. I sent some umber hulks against them and managed to confuse the rogue, who then spent a while running around babbling before going hostile and getting a crit on the dwarf paladin. That, along with the sorceress charming one of the umber hulks made for a very interesting session.

I was most amused.

And will you look at that, we just happen to be thinking of doing 3.5 games on the weekends.

You guys should check out Pathfinder... it's designed using the d20 system in the vein of 3.5, but it streamlines the fuzzy bits, and rather than provide billions of prestige classes to make your character how you'd like to, it provides much more flexible character classes which get interesting as you level. No more boring meatshield Fighters! You can play an intelligent warrior that benefits from their tactical mind, or a cat burgler that dabbles in magic, without multiclassing. Want a sorcerer who draws their magic from their Aberrition heritage? Go for it, just make the best of the wierd mutations that pop up. Want a Wizard without a familiar? Sure, have a rune-carved spell-staff instead!

Speaking of which, I got all my sourcebooks for Pathfinder! And the next set of player classes are comming out next month. Yays! Time to get to work on converting it to the Victorian Era... steampunk D&D FTW.

That sounds intresting... Maybe Ill go look that up and see if anyone would like to try that instead of default 3.5.

I would also be interested in a 3.5e game, as long as someone else DMs.  I have that Call of Cthulhu game to worry about too.

Another really good system is Iron Heros. It's more low fantasy (magic is rare and unreliable) but has very interesting characters and is much more character focused than equipment focused. Makes a nice change of pace.

Sure, there's been isolated forays into novels from time to time in years past--Catch 22, House of Leaves, East of Eden, whatever... but this time, I really want to just go devour a shelf of books whole like I used to.

Hmph.  Schedule now includes reading-time, not just internet-time and math-time.  It should also probably be altered to incorporate going outside-time... >_>

Catch-22 is something I've yet to finish. Same with House of Leaves... but that is because it's friggin' wierd. I keep telling myself that, some day, I will delve back into it... but whenever I attempt to, I fear the madness within, and the book is returned to its shelf. Very carefully.

You know, you could kill 2 birds with one stone, and read while outside. Find a nice old oak tree, climb up into it, and read for a while. Used to love doing that during summer afternoons.

I'll have to check that out. I'm actually building this campaign to be low-magic set in the Age of Exploration, with the reigning religious paradigm treating it akin to Witchcraft, (that's for both Arcane and Divine magic). Players can play magic-using classes, but it's uncommon, poorly understood, and sometimes a liability.

I've never played any tabletop RPGs.

Someone gave me a starter kit for DnD when I was like 10, but I couldn't find anybody to play with. My best friend had a christ-fanatic mother that forbid him from playing it. I played a few times with my family but it wasn't very fun because a)they had no imagination and b)they were obviosly humoring me. So the starter kit ended up in the trash at one point.

I really regret not finding a good group of people to play it with. Here's to hoping college will be different!

Heh, I think I'm one of the lucky few who didn't get all that scared by House of Leaves.  Once I'd gotten past the initial shock, I read it past many a midnight.  You should read it, though.  It's phenomenal.

And yes, reading outside is certainly feasible and very pleasant.  The truth is, though, that I should probably go back to taking walks, rather than just sitting around inside and then sitting around outside.  I'll probably spend the first week or two of summer break outside in the hammock, reading all the plays and novels I never had time for over the past while.
