So my mom gave me a really cute hairstyle.  Two buns in the back and my long curly parts twisted and clipped away from my face.  We tried on earrings, too.

I think it's time to fire up a vidjagame and start fragging things.  And/or slicing.  Stealthily.

. . . :3c
You should post in the pic share thread. It's been a while, you know, and we need to recover from looking at Japa's shirt. :P

I'd really love... whatever that thing is on the right. It looks delicious.

The cat somewhat less so.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Adopted out a three legged hamster at work today.

I'm curious, what is your job? Do you work at some kind of Animal rescue/shelter place? If so, well, that's really cool! :D

Yes and no. For my job I work at a pet store. Basically whoever took in the shipment wasn't checking the animals closely enough to notice the missing leg which is technically good because if she went back I would bet that she would have been put down, thus an additional happy considering this hamster was friendly right off the bat. I do volunteer weekly with a wildlife/exotic pet clinic however which is pretty much how I got my job in the first place. Assuming I don't get a job in the computer industry first I should see if I can find work at a zoo...

Never heard of pączkis before, but we Volga German type peoples have our pastry deliciousness in grebble/grebel.

Spoiler: öm nöm nöm (click to show/hide)

My grandmother used to make them fresh some mornings, some beer-infused dough twists fresh out of the fryer, plopped onto the cooling rack and then dusted with powdered sugar. Every now and then we'd make up a big batch of them and I'd take a few dozen to school for my teachers and classmates in the morning. Everybody loves you when you have homemade pastries that are still warm.

While I was on exchange in Italy, I had one major point of patriotism that I simply had to make so: I was gonna make some ANZAC biscuits.

I found this very fact out, when the class I was staying in happily gobbled down my entire tray of biscuits. They gobbled down the second tray too. Too bad they didn't get to try my (terrible) lamingtons. At least my host family enjoyed those.

Another fun fact I found was that it was actually colder outside than it was in the freezer, so I let the cake cool down under the porch. I got told off for it though, because cats might eat it. Fortunately, it was cat-free when I brought it in.

From the sad thread. Crossposting because at least we have snow.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Decided, rather than turning some missionaries away, to let them do their spiel. I made sure to preface it with telling them that I'm not a religious person, and that my primary interest in their beliefs was coming from a scholarly perspective. The elder-guy originally hailed from Ghana, and had stories to tell regarding his past and persecution. It was nice to hear him speak on the importance of teaching people so that they make good decisions, rather than strong-arming them into doing what you want... and drew parallels to teaching others about religion, and to the persecution he and others suffered at the hands of autocracy in Ghana. He was definitely a very good orator, and seemed a pretty wise man.

They left with a brief prayer for me to get through my current temporal/life challenges, as well as the usual wish for me to find "the path of wisdom", etc. I think they were about to offer me food aid too, but I did my best to cut that off... I'm not that poor, dangit!

Though I've not found a sudden influx of religiosity, it was still a very nice encounter.

Its really rare to have those guys knock on doors, most of them try harder to shove god into the house. Had a Jehovah witness show up my house talking about relationship checking to see if the family is good, told him my father is still having a nice 21 years with my mother, congrats me then we had some intellectual discussion on geology (rocks rule!). They don't really recruit much only just spreading the word of god, they aren't bad but they aren't a branch of Christianity more like a society that anyone can join.

Bought a HD cable for the wii, my eyes hurt less.
