Hydrogen peroxide, maybe once a month or two. Let it sit in the ear until the bubbling stops (might take a while, though. While being upwards a half hour :P). Can keep that from building up, or help clear it up when you start losing hearing. I also hear it's good for stopping/curing ear infection, but haven't tried that yet.

That said, it's perfectly normal for that kind of buildup to occur, apparently, and somehow helpful. Had something similar happen to me this month, doc said basically 'it's to keep bugs out'.

Sometimes my ears will pop while I'm at work or something, and all of a sudden the world is almost unbearably loud for a few minutes.  I start to think, is my hearing really that bad?  But then again, does everyone have to listen to this all day?

Probably.
Usually (atleast for me.) the computer is always loud, but you eventually just tune that noise out and stop paying attention to it :P

I am drinking some very good single malt after spending all day playing dolls house with my daughters. Blissful day. Fuck working. I need to be a stay at home parent. Shame the mortgage wont pay itself.

Toshiba wanted $400 to fix my laptop when their software caused the issue. A BIOS upgrade caused a glitch that installed a BIOS password check, but no password would satisfy it. Toshiba knew about this, and offered free repairs through 12/31/10. Nowhere on the download did they mention the glitch. I yelled at a tech support person after being told I would be put on hold for the 5th time while he talked to his boss, and told him it would be more efficient if I just talked to his boss instead. His boss told me the fix, which took all of 2 minutes to do.

I have a fixed laptop with an updated BIOS, and I didn't have to pay Toshiba $400 to fix their own problem. I am happy.

Well nice to hear you actually got a result from customer support! That's only happened to me once, and surprisingly it was from the very company I hate the most, Comcast.
