Don't think so. But there are other references, like Shoddy Dwarven IEDs (All craftsdwarfship is pretty lousy) and bone bolts.

Quite a lot of his non-scifi stuff is like that. I strongly reccomend the following, in no particular order:

Espedair Street
Complicity
Whit
The Crow Road
The Steep Approach To Garbdale
The Bridge
The Business

They are his better works IMHO. Of course, his scifi is also top notch.
When I got suggested The Wasp Factory neither would tell me anything about it. I had always associated Iain Banks with scifi and I thought that's what I was going to be reading. I wondered why the "M." was missing from his name on the cover. Now I know he uses the "M." only on his scifi.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will definitely be reading more of his stuff. Thanks to this forum the recently depleted list of books has been restocked greatly.

I love the new musical motif, based on "Far over the misty mountains cold". Even just a little snippet of that song gave me chills.

Someone registered an account here literally to just give away stuff.

I knew I kept that vintage '93 Fidem Humanitas around for a reason.

Hehe. Watching Checkpoint, and they made a rather good point out of the valve announcement. Its at about 2:30 in the video, but also here:

"Valve will be announcing something with a three in the name at E3 2012"
Graham: "This sounds exciting, until you realize that it could be literally anything they make. HL3, HL2 Ep.3, Portal 3, Team Fortress 3, Left4Dead3, maybe even Dota 3. Valve hasn't actually gotten past the number 2 before."

Supposedly, the guy was a forumite, but he lost his pass, and as such, he was forced to make a new account.

Still, his generosity is to be honored.

This makes me happy. :)
