^ That was wonderful.

I'm currently reading Rousseau's essay that establishes this problem.  Wow.  This is one of those days when it feels like studying rhetoric really is worth it.

Apparently the translator I've got on my browser translates the French word putin (whore) with Putin (Russian dictator). For some reason I giggled for 10 minutes about that. The sentence I was translating was "Aretez-ca tu putin, il n'y a aucune language plus mauvais que l'Anglais", which turned into (paraphrasing because it also failed on arretez-ca because it was misspelled) "Quit that, you Putin, there's no worse language than English"...

That's probably because the French word is "putain," or "pute" =)  "Putin" alone doesn't mean anything.

That is the best knowledge.

Also, revisions complete, time to flesh out our Sanity system. What overly complicated game doesn't have one of those? Then, maybe social encounters. But first, I must nom on something for dinner, and then also take a shower.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Remember to make sure that people don't go insane for silly things like looking at funny shapes.

I had a great time at the Anachronism Renaissance Festival. Now that I'm back, it just doesn't seem right to not be breathing in the smells of dirt, smoke, sweat, and ale. The jousting event was kind of... well, bad. I didn't find anything quite good enough to buy. Those are the only negative things to say about the day. Even seeing some projectile vomiting was fun.

And there was seriously a lot of dirt. All contents of my nose, snotty or otherwise, are currently black. My white shoes are very thoroughly brown.

Oh, and there was a guy there that looked exactly like Captain Jack Sparrow. Exactly. Even down to speaking and motions. It was pretty cool.

Bah. What if they're REALLY funny. Like a non-Euclidean clown?

Also, lol D&D. By their rules for calculating how difficult a monster is, a gigantic Water Elemental with an spoutload of Wizard levels is weaker than a human with the same number of Wizard levels. I sense some shenanigans available here.

Lectorog: That sounds like awesometimes.

Er, really? Which edition, 3.5?

Because I think that's wrong in most of them, but the early ones are a hotbed of crazy bullshit meant only to kill players with nothing they can do about it.

To be fair that kind of thing crops up quite a bit in RPGs.  In World of Warcraft there is a lv 60 ish fire elemental 5 man boss in a dungeon that was apperantly so strong it needed half a dozen mages constantly channeling just to keep it sealed.

In Uldum, a lv 84 overworld area(not even at the current level cap).  There are deer wandering around freely that have more hp, and hit harder than that does.

In Dragon quest 9 there is a later game overworld Green Dragon enemy.  In the final dungeon there is an adorable little hovering smiling puffball thing fluffing about that is significantly more dangerous than the dragon is.

3.5. It's kind of silly in a few minutiae.

Spoiler: Rules Talk (click to show/hide)

EDIT: Heh, I love it when stuff like that happens, although the Dragon Quest one sounds like a deliberate joke rather than lack of designer foresight.

Thank you internet for fulfilling my lifetime need to see nuns kicking ass and stabbing people with crosses.

EDIT: crotch shot at 1:15
Even if it's not real, it's still was great to see a nun strangle someone with her rosary.
