Wait, thinkfast: Who here isn't related to European royalty in some way or another?
ME!!!
There are like a bazillion Vietnamese people with the same last name (see: many many many Nguyens) so I have no idea what's going on here.

I've heard that I'm somehow a descendant of Wild-bill Hitchcock from my great grandmother.

Wild Bill Hickok?
Yeah, that one

Just how distant are they allowed to be?
I mean going back far enough I'm sure some local warlord slept around enough that the majority of the human race is directly descendant from somebody who could be seen as royalty in some way.

How the brains do you people figure out your genealogy? Because heaven knows asking my relatives hasn't gotten me far...

Most recent global common ancestor among humans is actually under 10k years ago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_recent_common_ancestor#TMRCA_of_all_living_humans

@theros: the easiest way is probably to assemble it based on known data until you happen to stumble across a genealogy tree online someone else put together into which yours fits. There are a few online services which claim to help, but they seem to be all paywalled and are probably of questionable quality anyway.

Had an awesome dream last night. It was in green and gold, oddly enough. I'm glad I remember quite a bit of it.

I am now half-way through Slaughterhouse-Five. I still don't know what it is - anything, that is. It's a pleasant read, nonetheless.

The C++ tutorial site I'm learning from was is down, so I didn't learn much on that today. Instead, I got in some practice time with just coding, rather than learning things and fiddling around with them. I think it helped.

Man, I have just fallen in love with this new little character of mine.

Should really give him a name, but just so cute! Reminds me of lemmings.

Won't you be surprised.  Those royals certainly would be.

Go back far enough, and everyone on the planet is descended from Africans. And there were plenty of kingdoms in Africa, at least until the European monarchies won the Middle Ages version of the arms race. So if you went back in time and shot, say, Ahmose I, a few hundred million people would probably retroactively cease to exist.

After all, it worked last time.

My family history reads a bit like a DF Legends Mode screen.  It involves ancient kings, wars, philanthropists, buried treasure, narrow escapes, the RCMP, and (possibly) the IRA and Kim Il-Sung.  Yes, I'm serious about all of those.  It's pretty cool, if long.
