Got an extensive email from an aunt of mine who does a lot of genealogical research, and apparently a many-greats uncle of mine was a British privateer who was an associate of Drake and made a substantial fortune stealing from the Spanish, including one notable incident where he siezed a ship with a hold full of pearls. Does this mean I can talk like a pirate whenever I please?   :P

That is exceedingly awesome, and I'm pretty sure it licenses you to talk like a pirate. That makes me want to go delving into my genetic Dad's geneology... I already know I share ties with a jazz musician, an impossibly stubborn Swiss mercenary clan, and some hardy Finnish loggers, but my Dad's side is a complete mystery.

Working at a library is fantastic for introducing me to awesome books that fly under the radar, foreign films to see, new albums and musicians to listen to, and a great mix of cultured and awesome people. Every day, I go in with a pen and paper to write down all the things I see, and want to check out for one reason or other.

I'm trying to track down this film for my semi-regular Movie Night. It's a German Dark-Ages Pulp/Horror film set during the bubonic plague, and it has Necromancers, and Sean Bean in it. Sounds pretty fun, and I think it'd appeal to most of them. Also, ever since Game of Thrones, I've been on something of a Sean Bean kick... pity the guy dies in half the roles he plays, as he's probably one of my more favorite actors!

I have no idea who my ancestors were, considering that most people on my dad's side of the family have a lot of money and are in management jobs I assume i'll have a few bankers.

Oh and I learned a few days ago that my grandfather (Who i've talked to once in my life) was a vice president of a small corporation for awhile.

My grandfather was a one-legged smuggler. That's something I can respect.

I'm related to Jane Austen which gets me points with the kind of girls who read Jane Austen.

I'm also related by blood to George Dubya and his wife.  Let that sink in for a minute.

Also John Hunt Morgan, a confederate brigadier general who took an army all the way up to Ohio.

Damn, if only my family didn't all hate eachother since the beginning of time. I swear, they refuse to talk about pretty much anyone because they hate them.

The farthest that I could track my family line was back to some major plantation owners in virgina back when settlers finally made it out there and began growing cotton as a major cash crop. I'm not too proud of that period. However, I do have one notable member of my family that I know of. A semi famous novel writer that wrote at least one fairly successful novel, one of the very first serious fantasy novels in the U.S. I haven't found anyway to track our family farther than vague references to Europe.

I heard once that I am related to Theodore Roosevelt, but I don't know if it's true.

My great to the something grandfather was a landsknecht that won great honors and a title fighting for the British crown...
Or at least that's what I've been told, I've never figured out what war that was, then again I've never looked into my family tree. I know my great aunt has done a lot of research on the subject.

Oh, and we've got a prayer book that's written in Latin but has English translations written in between the lines. Apparently you run into some very interesting things when you look back into your family history.

Wait hold on, my grandfather isn't lame. I knew he was a photographer, but I didn't think he was really known. He apparently made his living taking animal pictures, and then selling them to groups that would then make them into a calenders. Kind of lame, but still. I even found this article about him. http://www.animaltalk.us/about-dwight-dyke/
