You can critically hit people's personalities. I like the quirks that are arising out of this ruleset's construction.
I'm just sort of going backwards reading the posts in this thread and I come across this. (I assume this is about that game you said you were working on with some people.) Is it likely that the rules will allow you to make called shots to someone's self-esteem?

With the weapons made of telepathy, yes. As soon as I work out a good mechanism for called shots. Don't hold your breath on that, though.

EDIT: Ohhh, we could work in rules for using insults as weapons...

Kadzar, this is entirely your fault, and I thank you for it. This is the best.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Re: MLP. Not everything appeals to everyone. Good writing, animation, etc etc does not equate being something that you, personally, will enjoy. There's nothing wrong with not "getting" it.

Most fans probably couldn't tell you in unambiguous terms why they like it. I certainly can't. All I can say is it hit me like a train with emotional torque; something very few works have ever done. How and why, though? Can't say.

Another show that hit me like a train. Dr. Horrible's awesome :)

Always loved NPH and his role there rocked.

I always like cartoons kids can watch with adults and both get something out of it. :D

Who's NPH?

I'm pretty sure the idea is either from "Things Mr. Welch can no longer do in an RPG" or inspired by it, but, either way, I love the idea of a game where you can cause damage to abstract concepts.

EDIT: Ah, yes. It's number 517.

Who's NPH?
Neil Patrick Harris, the actor who played Dr. Horrible.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

You do realize that you're basically leading yourself into an emotional version of FATAL, right?

Possibly, but with less obnoxious tables, less sexism and objectification, and generally less offensive design. I'm not talking about progressivism with that last one, I'm referring to the actual design of the game as an offense to all that is good.

I'd have to try very, very hard to approach a justified comparison to FATAL, and even then I doubt I could compare without research that would leave me with a compulsive habit of clearing my search history every 5 minutes out of an overwhelming sense of shame. As it is, the planned scope of this thing is still smaller (by an enormous margin) than the most commonly used chunks of D&D 3.5. I don't expect it to even get as far as planned.

This post brought to you by my offense at any comparison to that... thing disguised as an RPG.

Any comparison to it is merely referring to the immense detail that you're apparently planning to put into this, no offense is intended :)

Got 2 more achievements for Spacechem, and about to beat another chapter, unfortunately, that one's a brain buster to figure out. I need to install a ruby crystal (of course, having to build one first) into a laser and blow up a mecha-crab. Not only that, but I have access to fewer reactors than I feel safe with.

Oh, sweet Jegus. Nah, there's actually not as much detail as it sounds. It's more breadth than depth; trying to make one system to accomodate Zuko, Kamina, Malcolm Reynolds, and Professor Xavier (as some random test characters I should build later on) just means there's a lot of archetypes that need stuff.

That sounds kind of insane, especially mixed in with all of those telepathy shenanigans.

Speaking of Renaissance Faires the one that I work at seasonally is about to start up. After hours I might even have a DnD group which would be a very happy first for me.

Almost, finally done with Aristotle!  Finally!  Yes!  Joy!

Then I have to run screaming into Foucault's Discipline and Punish, since the book needs to be back to the library by next Tuesday and is non-renewable.  But hey, at least I have a little time to do that before the big exam-crunch coming up.
