Without getting into details, had a situation at work where someone from Group A was publicly calling Group B (to which I belong) a bunch of incompetent asshats. Not so much directed at me as at a few others (who are to some degree incompetent).

Rather than blowing up on him, I firmly but diplomatically reiterated a timeline of events and facts that indicated that no, we're not asshats and yes, we were justified in contacting his group. Privately, I emailed him with regards to another incident that he had good cause to call asshattery on, and let him know that that was our bad, and I'd have a talk with the people responsible so that they didn't bother him with that again.

Net result? I seem to have gained admiration and respect from all parties, including several managers who were witness to all this. And put a guy in his place without making an enemy of him.

This is why I'd rather be in the State Department, dammit.. For my next trick, I'll achieve a peaceful solution to the Palestinian question. That's just how I roll. 

EDIT: Also, have a date with the wife at a Taiwanese place that's supposed to be crazy good, according to some Taiwanese friends. There's a big ol' plate of 炸酱面 with my name on it.

That kinda reminds me, a friend of mine used to have the same issues with physical contact until pretty recently, it even extended to suggested contact. She's doing a lot better about it now. It's pretty odd how internet hugs just seem to work in general though, since you'd think the lack of said contact would lead to some issues, but it just seems to work.


Also, I noticed that Janet has been posting more online when I've been off. It's pretty good to see her this way, although I'm not exactly sure why myself.
