It's safe to assume he's a smart guy.

Doesn't he just have a PhD?  I don't remember him attaining a full professorship...
As it was told to me he has two PhD's.
Just one Ph.D and post doc work. He was indeed a full professor for awhile.

Regarding my academic background, I've always been good at math and followed a sort of path of least resistance, starting at my mathematics degree from the University of Washington through to my Stanford Ph.D. and into my postdoc at Texas A&M.  At that point I had to make a decision between games and math, since I wasn't talented enough to do those two things at once professionally and be responsible about it.  In any case, all the practice at mathematics has helped with game writing, since there are similar skills that come up with algorithms and with spatial considerations.

Yes, but there's still a huge difference between the work/involvement/whatever it takes to get a PhD (or, yes, even two) and the work it takes to become a tenured professor.

I'm not intending to insult him, just surprised that he supposedly became a professor and then swapped to making computer games.

A full professor is someone who has tenure.

A postdoc is not someone who has tenure.  Generally speaking, such a person is not considered a "professor" at all.  A person who teaches in a university, even one who has completed doctoral work, is not automatically considered a professor; they may simply be a lecturer, in the instance in which that person does no research.

Well, afaik he was doing research and lecturing on his way to tenure but definitely left to work on DF before attaining it- didn't want to deal with academian politics that long.

So not a full professor, but we may still refer to him as Doctor Adams.

Haha, postdoc is generally considered "on the way to tenure track," since there's another branch (adjunct vs. associate professor) that a lot of people tend to fall off of.

But yeah, Doctor Adams.

Now the question is: Does ThreeToe have a PhD? Because if he does, we can then legitimately call them the Adams Doctors. I think.

Well I'm both happy and sad.

Happy because I found out my computer is robust enough to record and likely stream X3: Terran conflict because of accidental fraps recording.

Sad because DAMMIT I LOST A WHOLE CARGO BAY OF PIRATED GOODS BECAUSE IT TABBED OUT DUE TO LOW DISK SPACE AND I CANT TAB IN D:

Tom Hooper-directed movie musical addition of Les Miserables is REALLY HAPPENING this time, starting production in the fall or winter this year. Hugh Jackman has been signed on to play Jean Valjean (picture perfect if you ask me, he has both the physical presence AND the singing ability with correct range) and rumors say Paul Bettany has been asked to read for Javert.

I am excited

Meanwhile on another Hugh Jackman tangent, James Mangold has been signed on to helm 'The Wolverine', an only vaguely related movie to the previous Wolverine film but still starring Jackman as the lead. This one was previously going to be directed by Darren Aronofsky but he backed out, but Mangold could be a good choice as well. The film is based off the 80s Wolverine miniseries dealing with Wolverine's time in Japan.

Finished my final exam yesterday, and got another A. That means I can celebrate summer holiday with straight-A's now. Feels good man.

Holy crud

To add to the good Victor Hugo news, Tim Burton is doing a Hunchback of Notre Dame thinger (reputedly).  I'm not so sure about his Victorian aesthetic working in, oh, 1482, but am anticipating that at the very least he'll keep my favorite scary parts from the original novel.

Please, Frollo, stab and whip yourself for me?  Please?

*cough*

I'm not a sadist, but I like my tragedies tragic.

Oh, I can tell you exactly how that's going to go down.  It'll be Victorian Hunchback, whatever the blurb claims, or going be the "thinger" comment, some really interpretive thing that winds up being a loose remake of Scissorhands.  Not that that's a bad thing mind you.
