I was more commenting on the condescending attitude I commonly face (perhaps others don't encounter this so often) when bringing philosophical tangents into discussions, where bothering to think about such things is derided as a waste of time with no "real world" implications.  I respond that they're essentially flying blindly through life with such an attitude.

The plus side is I have far fewer regrets than most people, and never feel lost or bored as most people often report.

Everybody flies blind, it's just about figuring out an image of the world around you that keep you oriented. Philosophy won't make life any clearer on what's actually there. But it'll let you get a clearer direction to go in.
Well there's more to it than that, but as far as getting direction in life is concerned... Of course, I know a lot of people tend to be happier if they don't think about life too much, so maybe philosophy is just a gigantic waste of time and energy.

Of course, I don't mean to say that studying philosophy will lead people to underlying truths about life that will make everything clear, but it does seem to me like a lot of people don't even have any idea what they're doing with their lives or why and that's a problem.  You may respond with some statement about life being a journey that doesn't necessarily need a destination, but having the realization that one is on that journey and what that means makes one actually equipped to get something meaningful out of it.

As for happiness, I'm happy that I'm finally getting some tabletop roleplay back into my life, after years of absence, and it's not motherfucking D&D!
