That's not a big feat when what you're drinking has less alcohol in it than the weakest modern beer ;). Vikings (Swedes at least) were known for having bad alcohol-sense when compared to the rest of Europe (and definitely to the modern world). Mead is like the weakest drink of all time. This is also the reason the whole of Sweden succumbed to alcoholism when stronger drinks and spirits became commonplace among poorer people, they kept drinking it in the same way people had drunk their mead and diluted ale and beer, and well, that wasn't good for them.

Vikings were complete sissies, man. You people should get over the fanboyism of them :P

People who wield battle-axes while naked and turn the skulls of their fallen opponents into drinking cups don't really qualify as sissies in my book.

Besides, you've just possibly hit on one of the main motivations for Viking plunder -- to find better booze!  :P

On a totally unrelated tangent, I somehow got into a wikiwander about ancient automata, and discovered that when the Yuan dynasty (the Mongols) fell in 1368, the victorious Chinese raided their palace at Khanbaliq (Beijing) and found.....robot tigers.  :o
Okay, so they were just decorative automata, but the very notion conjures up a mental image of Genghis Khan riding an 8-foot tall warbot. Which I really, really want to see.

From Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automata#Medieval_automata
Quote
The Chinese author Xiao Xun wrote that when the Ming Dynasty founder Hongwu (r. 1368–1398) was destroying the palaces of Khanbaliq belonging to the previous Yuan Dynasty, there were—amongst many other mechanical devices—automatons found that were in the shape of tigers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ming_Dynasty#Science_and_technology
Quote
When the Ming founder Hongwu came upon the mechanical devices housed in the Yuan Dynasty's palace at Khanbaliq —such as fountains with balls dancing on their jets, self-operating tiger automata, dragon-headed devices that spouted mists of perfume, and mechanical clocks in the tradition of Yi Xing (683–727) and Su Song (1020–101)— he associated all of them with the decadence of Mongol rule and had them destroyed

It did in my old games, I haven't played long enough with the two newest expansions to see if it changes. But suffice to say that when it was time for me and my fellow European countries to put our imperialist gazes on the rest of the world, China more often than not had already conquered most of their playground. One colour, one nation, one big blimp of a country.

In EU2, a series of events usually caused them to collapse and be annexed by the Manchu. In EU3, it seems like it works but in reverse. The Manchu usually wind up annexed by Ming, who are then able to trigger an national decision which creates Qing Dynasty China under Manchu leadership.

Which is amusing, because it means the Manchu are doing what China historically did--act like the Borg in reverse. "Go ahead, conquer us. We'll assimilate you in two generations."

I haven't played around a whole lot with Divine Wind yet, but from early glances it seems like they added in some triggered modifiers and events to really try to keep China from becoming the Yellow Blob of Doom (Mandate of Heaven and all that).
